Re: Science Project - Engraved Dash Panel

Thanks guys. I like lights... and gages.

Captain,

I am a mechanical guy myself but...
I can certify that if you hook the LED up to 12 volts it will light briefly, then smoke will come out of it, and it will light no more.

The LED's will have a specified current of around 10 milliamps. So the resistor needed to keep the current at 10 milliamps when connected to 12 volts is. R=V/I, or 1200 ohms in this example. At least I think that is how it works. The LED's are only $1.50 from Mouser.

Re: Science Project - Engraved Dash Panel

Geez, I went to mouser website, I couldn't find anything that looks like the small LED's that you have, but I did find millions of other parts that they have......that place must be HUGE!!!! An electricians dream!!

I'll keep looking for the LED's and resistors......

Re: Science Project - Engraved Dash Panel

dmoss,

Here they are. These are 12 volt and don't require resistors. I used these after an unfortunate short I had during installation fried some of mine. This one is yellow but they have different colors in this same package. Note that the spec sheet shows the mounting hole size etc.
