Lightbulb How many and what kind do i need?

I’m planning on replacing my all my dash bulbs this weekend but want to be prepared! How may bulbs should I pick up for my 83 with gauges? Also anyone know what size/part number i need.

Also any advice on removing the cluster is appreciated. At the same time I plan on lubing my speedo cable what should I plan for that?

Thanks Ben

It is a fairly simple task to remove the different guages to replace the lightbulbs and such... Be VERY careful when you remove the blue pod in the back, that left bracket breaks wayy to easily... If you do remove the pod, I would highy suggest you clean it up and spray paint the whole thing a nice shiney silver color, it will dramatically improve the brightness of your panel at night. I dunno what number the blubs are, but I can snap a photo of one for you tommorow when I get back in...

bulbs

The bulbs are 194's. They plug into the black sockets that press against the PC on the back of the cluster. Get about 10 or so and that should cover you on it.

There are 12 bulb positions in all. 2 positions are for the turn signal lights and 2 positions to illuminate the two idiot lights for below the speedometer for 4X4 engaged and Brake/Alt warning lights. The other 8 are for the back lighting.

Did you remove the speedometer cable from the back? There is also a little wire connector with a really small screw thats attached. Not sure if that is just if you have cruise control or not.

There is a clip that you have to push up on and pull the cable at the same time. It also has to be pushed up when it goes back on. Its not real hard but it can be at times

Also, your oil pressure guage may have a cable on it...
