Front Fender Braces
Hi, I have a 66 short stepside from which I removed the front fenders to do some de rusting. Now I cant remember where the braces go. Truthfully, I dont even know if the ones I have are from this truck as I am also working on a 1953 model and I could have mixed them up. The pair with the threaded ends surely came from the 66 (about 16" long) and most likely went through the frame, but where? The other pair I have are a little shorter (about 15 inches). Can anyone help? Even if I knew where one hole was, I could swing the arm around and figure out where the other hole is.
This is what I get for fixing up two trucks at the same time and for waiting so long to replace the fenders. |

Re: Front Fender Braces
I think those might go to the rear fenders.

Re: Front Fender Braces
Hi, Well I appreciate your advice but I should have told you that I have already taken care of the rear fenders with four other support rods that I had. They fit perfectly so I think they are the ones that belong there. Maybe the ones I have pictured belong to the 53?
Anyway, the ones with the threaded ends I am 99.9% sure go to the front fenders of the 66. The threaded ends must go through the frame since they are pretty heavy duty. But where in the frame? I dont see any extra holes unless some hole to supposed to be doing double duty. I wish there was another truck around here I could look at. Is there any chance anyone out there has a front wheel off and could snap a picture. I know its a lot to ask but it really would help me out. Thanks |

Re: Front Fender Braces
Those are rear fender braces. The front fenders are just bolted on. The top two w/threaded ends aren't 60-66.

Listen to the forum members. These are not used on the front fenders of a 60-66 Chev/GMC. I have a short step 64 and from the pictures you have furnished the top two look like the frame to step/lower rear fender and the bottom two look like the fender braces on the stepside rear fenders. I don't know what the fenders on a 53 look like so I can't comment on that. Dean

Re: Front Fender Braces
The 48-54 did have these braces on the front, but not the 60-66. My guess is your extra braces are off your 53.

Re: Front Fender Braces
I think I have the same ones. These braces go to the steps. I know they do because I remember taking them off late one night in the dark. They go from the steps thru the frame. I hope this helps.

Re: Front Fender Braces
Well, I guess that would explain why LMC doesnt sell any braces for the front fenders. I have two braces in each rear fender so I guess Im good to go. Thanks for everyones help.

Re: Front Fender Braces
I finally figured where the threaded braces go. Luckily, I took a picture before I removed them and found it while looking around for other stuff. The threaded end goes through the frame and the other end is attached to the inside front edge of the rear fender (stepside). Near as I can tell, they have nothing to do with the step itself.
