Here is what I have done:

Locate the wire under the dash and disconnect it. Tie a long shoe string or speaker wire to the end. On top, twist the handle towads you and pull the lever out of the column. Then pull the wire all the way out. You may have to go back and forth a couple of times but just take it easy and be gentle. It should eventually come out. Then you attach the new turn signal wire to the string or wire that you have coming out of your column and pull it through being extra careful. It may take a little patients, but it should be doable.

If you're not confortable with that method, you may want to take it to a shop that rebuilds steering columns, and they can set you up in about 45 minutes.

Hope this Helps,

BLUE SQUARE

Seems somewhat similar to the video - but I think I can do what you say. It would be nice for cruise to work on this 3 speed for the odd highway jaunt

This is quickly turning into something I wish I never attempted.

I pulled the old one out and had wire attached to the end. Tied the wire to the new lever wire and now I got it stucj somewhere in the column and it won't go ahead or back out. Grrr.

I'm literally tempted to crack the column open I'm getting that frustrated. I removed the bezel trim and I've tried pulling the wire along the top and sides of the column... I would have rather done a tranny and diff fluid change and brakes all around than this. Holy *(&#*%@&%^

Column work is a pita for sure. Sometimes you have to take the mounting brackets off and pull a plastic wire retainer to get things to clear

If I let go the mount bolts that look to secure the column to the dash - would that drop it a bit?

Got my answer, I let them go and it dropped.

I think it's getting caught in some of the ignition levers inside. Depending on where I tug on the wire the key cylinder is hesitant to turn....
