Mechanical or Electric Gauges

I am wanting to start buying my Auotmeter gauges 1 or 2 at a time and start putting them in the truck. I already bought a ProComp Electric Water temp gauge and I am looking to buy the oil pressure gauge next. Do you prefer mechanical or electric senders? Why either way?

Re: Mechanical or Electric Gauges

i installed sport comp gauges in my truck last winter. went with electric, no lines running into your cab. i found them to be fairly easy to install, i have pics of every thing i did, plus the wiring colors if you are only changing the small gauges. the small plug i pigtailed in for the temp/oil/volt/vac.

Re: Mechanical or Electric Gauges

They are both good, but my thought(s) is/are that unless you drive only during the daytime, you have to wire them for light anyways.....

In that case, why not go with electric?

i am using both electric(tach) and mechanical(temp). i think the wiring routing is easier with electric---because you can pretty much route the wires anyway/anywhere you want. With mechanical, i feel there is less leeway----i didn't have as much flexibility with routing with the sender tube AND it is a fixed length whereas with electric you can make the wire as long or short as you want. Of course, there is probably a way to make the sender tube longer or shorter but i don't know how at this point.

The reason why i am using both types is because i had the mechanical laying around and didn't feel like spending more money.

Re: Mechanical or Electric Gauges

Does anyone have the plug layout for the stock gauge cluster I am thinking of just hardwiring my stock gauges, My printed circuit is bad and don't want to mess with getting a new one, I am already running a mechanical oil pressure gauge.
