69 CST with tach and HEI! What do I need to do to get it to work?

Hey there guys, I have watched this forum for years but have never taken part in it until today. While I was on vacation in Wisconsin last week I ran across a 69 CST10 that was way to nice and waaaaaaay to cheap to pass up. I bought it on the spot and trucked it home. It has the full dash with the tach and gauges but the previous owner put a HEI distributor in the truck. In the past I have just hooked up the tach wire to the tach pole on the distributor and no problems. Last night I did a little checking around for some new parts and when I looked up the tach for giggles all new parts seem to note that they can not be used with an HEI distributor. What's up with that? Also the previous owner clipped the wire for the tach, am I correct in believing it is the brown wire coming through the firewall? Any help will be appreciated.

The brown wire connects to the tach terminal on your HEI cap. The pink wire is power and connects to your fuse panel. The tach is grounded through the cluster, but it never hurts to add a separate ground wire to it.

I have never had a problem with a factory OEM tach or an aftermarket tach used with HEI.

Welcome to the boards! Let's see that truck!

When you are typing a post, hit the "go advanced" button, just to the right of the "post quick reply" button. You will then have the option of "manage attachments" and can add up to 5 pictures to your post.
