I would like to be able to lock my hood, but im not a fan of the locks that stick out of the hood. Is there any way to make a under hood lock? or do they sell a kit? has anyone done this? pics? thanks,

That is what i did. Hardly noticable, only cost less than $5 in parts and took less than a hour to do. A acutal hood lock with a padlock and chain would work better, but i have found that this works great for keeping out your aveage theif. I leave my truck in a parking lot for a week at a time without driving it, and haven't had anything stolen yet (knock on wood), but i do live in a pretty small town.

I used a dog choke chain with welded links to lock my hood on my '60 chevy when I had it. Just loop it through the hood and grille inside and put a padlock on it. Kept the battery thieves away...

While I was at Summit Racing yesterday, I saw a very sharp Locking set up from I Believe LOKAR, It had a Billet Aluminum handle That bolted under the dash and had a cable that goes under the hood. I didn't look to see exactly how the set up hooked on the hood itself, ( if I would have taken the time to look better, I would have bought it) But I have no doubt that it is a secure set uo, just the way everything is made.

I'm sure you can go to their wbsite and pull it up.

There is another cheaper one on the market that I have used and it wasn't bad. It had a choke cable type of cable, with a Steel pin that went through a metal bracket bolted to the radiator support and another bolted to the hood. It cost under ten dollars But I forgot where I got it from, It may have been NAPA

I use a piece of cable. It was originally a cable intended to lock up a bicycle of whathaveyou with a loop on each end. The cable is about 1/4 inch and has a plastic coating. I cut the loop off of one end and ran it through a hole in the hood brace and tied it back to the cable with a cable clamp. I drop the other end with the original loop through an original hole in the pan ahead of the rad support panel. There is enough of the loop sticking through underneath that I can run a padlock through it. There is enough slack that I can pop the hood without removing the lock but the hood will only come up a couple of inches unless the padlock is removed. Could take photos if you don't understand the text well enough. Let me know if you want a photo or two.

I got a lock set up at NAPA several years ago. It consisted of a short chain with a type of latch on the end that slipped into a locking mech. You bolt the short chain to the hood and then attach the locking mech. somewhere on the rad. support. To lock it you just slip the latch into the locking mech. and it clips when locked. TO unlock you use a key to unclip the lock and remove the latch. I have it on a 70GMC so it may not work on a 69-72 Chevy trucks because of the closed grill.

The biggest problem with a lock like that,if you have an underhood fire you will have a hard time getting the hood open.A cable operated latch release inside the cab would be better. By the way,everyone should have a fire extinguisher in thier truck.Wouldn,t want anyone to lose thier truck over a small carb fire.

I had a fellow using my truck as a parts department. That is why I put the cable lock on the hood. If I had just had a cable release inside, he would have popped the hood after he got into the cab. I had locks on the vent windows and an alarm but he still took me for a number of items over one winter. I thought I would outlast him and I did. He either moved on or got a newer truck and didn't need me anymore. I lost my spare tire, tail light lenses, and gas pedal on a series of visits. I also lost so many tanks of gas that at one point I would put $5 worth in each time I drove it and leave it pretty much empty the rest of the time. I bought several locking gas caps but he just snapped them off. I considered changing the tank to something that would have a hidden or at least protected filler but never did it.

The hidden tank would've been great for getting him off your truck if you had left the old filler & cap intact but hooked up to a 2 1/2 gallon can hidden inside filled with sugar tainted gas! Then you'd have been able to cruise the area looking for his dead truck and reclaim your missing parts...

Don, I have to admit that one would be great, especially if you did find his truck in the neighborhood. Then haul it home and lock it up and wait for him to come get it. LOL
