How do I un-stuck a stuck tailgate???

I have a truck bed with a decent tail gate on it but the bed is headed to the junk yard and the gate will not open. I mean I cant even get the handle to move on the unit.

How do I go about getting it off the truck w/out cutting the bed or ? Looks like its been shut for a very very long time.

Any tips are appreciated? Junk yard trip is Saturday.

mine was closed for 15 years, all i had to do was use a few cans of wd40 and wrench back and forth on the handle for a while, still hard to move and i gotta hit it to go back down but it works

But where to you spray the WD 40?

i sprayed on the sides between the bed and tailgate on both sides and all around the handle trying to get the upper part of the handle too inside with the moving parts

Thanks I'll give it a go! Worst case I'm removing the front headder panel and Wheel wells if I have to I guess I could cut the back of the bed off and free the gate that way.

I have a fleetside tailgate with the opposite problem. I bolted it on the longhorn and now it won't stay closed. I think it just need lube. The handle moves but the nubs on each Side do not.

try to pry against the tailgate on the inside between where the stake pocket comes all the way down to the bottom of the floor and pry while having the tailgate lubed in all moving joints
