Air bag/ exhaust routing

I have a 68 Chevy swb truck it has a basic air ride setup on it and I can't figure out how to rought the exhaust on it. I just put shorty headers on the truck and I want to run 2 1/2 pipe. When I bought the truck the guy had the mufflers under the cab, in between the frame and rockers. I would like to run them to the rear axle but the pipe will be hanging too low and would most likely drag on some stuff. Anyone ever had this same problem? If so send pics or explain how you did it. The only thing that would work I think, would be to cut a hole big enougj in the trailing are cross member. I just don't know if thats safe or not. Thanks
