How low can i go on 20s?

So I just found a killer deal on a set of kmc stealths for my truck. They have 275/55/20now, ill probably keep them gor awhile. My question is how low can I go front and rear on my truck with this setup, and how low could I go with a lower pro tires with out cutting fender wells and such, just a regular static drop with minimal rubbing. Thanks in advance.

Spacers only help if there is excessive backspacing, what if there is not enough.....that would be way worse unless you like the look of tires sticking out. There would be no way to lower the truck if there isn't enough backspacing. I would find out how much backspacing there is on the wheels.

BTW to thick of a wheel spacer is very bad, they have a bad habit of coming apart with catastrophic end results. Wheel spacers should never be thicker than 1/4", unless they are the bolt on billet style.

Do you have the wheels already? Measure the backspacing. If not, ask the seller to measure for you. Useless thread without additional info.

Re: How low can i go on 20s?

Quality wheel spacers will run you almost as much as the wheels. Then you have the time to strip and paint them (not that easy of a job). I am not sure this is as good of a deal as you are thinking it is.

Wheel spacers: http://www.motorcitybolton.com/wheel...l-spacers.html

You may be able to find cheaper wheel spacers, but please remember that there are more people on the road than yourself. It's one thing to have an inferior product break and you hurt yourself, a whole different story when you hurt someone else.

Re: How low can i go on 20s?

My guess by the left pic is they are from a newer 6 bolt GM truck or SUV so they will have a deep backspace.

Re: How low can i go on 20s?

We're all here to help and honestly I wouldnt want to see you spend 20 bucks on something you cant use.. I havent forgotten you offered to look at that truck in Mtn Home for me. I know how bad you want them and it is a good deal.. I know.

But, wheel spacers are hard to keep balanced and if you ever have a flat they can be a pain to get off ( so the spare will go back on) you cant break them loose easily because the wheel is not on the ground. Make sense? Not to mention dangerous.

Will the seller let you try one on your truck?

Also, a 275/55 is a big tire. If you lower it you might get into rubbing situations especially the front when you turn the wheels.

Again, just trying to help. Really, I dont think this is the right combo for you regardless of price. Just my. 02 worth..

Re: How low can i go on 20s?

I have to agree. The tires are useless for you if you want to lower the truck, so you will need to replace those, And do you want to spend $50 per wheel when they are the wrong offset? By the time you buy spacers and mess around, it wont be much cheaper than buying another set that fits properly.

Re: How low can i go on 20s?

someone explain backspacing, and what am i looking for? and i think they are for a newer truck. i understand what yall are saying, id rather be safe then sorry. unfortunately my finances keep me from getting any nice wheels. i cant drive my truck down there because of im in the process of swapping engines. i thought about risking it, the reason why is because if they dont fit, i could always sell them on craigslist and get my money back or trade for the right wheels. im good at buying and selling on craigslist ,like $8K profit in 3years. idk, you guys wont steer me wrong. i should just try to find 3 more of the old 6lug steel wheels and leave it be till i can afford boyd coddingtons or something

Re: How low can i go on 20s?

Backspacing determins how far the wheel sticks out. You can have an 8" wide wheel that either is inside the fender (allowing it to tuck when lowered), or sticking out 2" past the fender. Depends on back spacing. Those wheels you are looking at are very positive offset. On your truck they will be sucked way into the fender possibly rubbing on suspension components. They are designed for newer trucks. You need a zero to negative offset wheel.
