Door Locks on my 67

Have you ever seen a door that will lock with the key when its open but when you close it, it wont lock with the key??? I never seen anything like this and im hoping its just a adjustment issue... If anyone has run into this please let me know what you did to fix it... Thanks

That is usually caused by wear in the latch pawl. Try pushing in on the door while locking. You can also try backing the adj. off a bit.

I tried to back the Striker out some with no help to the problem. So this is probably not going to be fixed short of putting in a new latch assembly... I really didnt want to have to pull my inner door panel back out... Oh well thats the cost of not replacing it when the door was completely torn apart...

Roll your window down and spray some penetrating oil (not WD40) on the latch and locking mechanism. You can see it with a flashlight if you look down inside the door at the back of the glass. Spray the crap out of it... Like John said, 90% of the time it's because your door isn't closing all the way. Move the striker out a little more and make sure the latch isn't dragging on it..

Two of my trucks do this on the driver side so I'd say wear too. I have to push in on the door when locking them. Passenger sides both work perfectly.

I did almost exactly what you described in your post yesterday with no fix. In fact I sprayed so much PB Blaster in there the door is seeping!!! So Im guessing that the latch mech is just worn out. I brought the door out enough with the striker that there was an 1/8 inch gap on the back side of the door and if it needs that much I would rather go through the pain of pulling the door panel. That door has been a real pain as far as shutting since I hung it and put in the Door Seals. I replaced the Driver side Latch and it shuts really nice but as I remember now everyone in the local area was out of the Passenger Side Door Latch so that is why I didnt replace it. Patients is another thing I need to learn on these projects.

I have a similar issue...passenger door does not unlock unless you push down on the lock knob....when the door opens..then the key does not come out...any ideas on issue?

Tough call on that one without seeing it. Pushing down on the button should lock it. I would say you either have the wrong lock pawl on the cylinder (there is a right and left) or it is not installed correctly. The key will only come out in the vertical position. If you haven't seen this thread read it...

I'm assuming that the lock sprowl needs to be vertical over the "c" latch..correct?

The lock pawl is not in the correct position. It needs to be in between the two legs on the door latch, and it is bent down. The angle should be 90º.

Look at the pictures again in the link I posted... The lock pawls aren't exactly the same but that doesn't make any difference.
