z'd frame. radiator will not fit

So what's everyone doing with the radiator after z'ing the frame. I z'ed 2.5in, and the radiator is to tall. Any suggestions on what radiator to use. 1966 c10 with 350 engine.

Did you also drop the front frame horns down 2.5" to match? If you did then there is no reason your radiator should be too tall.

Looks like you z'ed after the radiator. Not sure if that's where you should, but I agree that you drop the radiator down to match.

Re: z'd frame. radiator will not fit

I will have to post a pic this afternoon when i get home. The radiator support is on a crossmember between the frame, behinde the hornes. the front horns were dropped down. that is only for the front clip.

This is not my truck, just a good picture of what i am talking about. Mine is 66. The center section by the blue tape that links both sides of the frame together. thats where my radiator mounts are at, so they did not get lowered with the Z.

Shane if I would have cut any farther back, I would have been cutting where the gear box goes.

Re: z'd frame. radiator will not fit

I would buy a universal fit crossflow radiator from Summit Racing or Speedway Motors.
Just measure the available room and buy the closest one that will fit.

Re: z'd frame. radiator will not fit

could you move the "u" brackets closer to the front, and mount a crossmember to bolt them to? im assuming you would just have to buy new hoses that are a bit longer than stock..? just tryin to think if you could do something other than buying a new radiator

Re: z'd frame. radiator will not fit

ok after several months of ignoring my truck i have a solution. 1977 chevy c10 radiator with auto trans and slightly modified radiator supports. This way i dont have to run a seperate trans cooler, since i upgraded to an automatic trans in the build.

The width on the 73-up radiators is like 31". I measured on mine & it would of req'd cutting the front inner fenders for clearance (@ the front dog-house support). Did you remove your inners completely or just plan to notch for clearance?

The truck has been bagged with 2.5 in drop spindles, and a 2.5 in z'd frame with 20's. I had to take them out, or do alot of serious modification.

Gotcha. I'm leaving mine in & tweaking them from there.

Re: z'd frame. radiator will not fit

I ended up using a radiator for a 1982 c10 with a 350. I made some minor modifications to the radiator bracket. It worked out well.

Re: z'd frame. radiator will not fit

Does anyone use their original radiator when doing this? I'm trying to figure this part out right now but where everyone Z's the front I don't see a way to use the stock radiator because where the cross member that holds the bottom of the radiator is in the stock position and mine won't fit under the hood. Is there a reason most people don't Z being the radiator cross member? I know that is where the power steering pump goes so I'm guessing that is the reason.
