Re: which lift kit ultimatly gives the best ride

I like Tuff Country EZ-rides with Rancho 9000RSXs. The shocks are expensive, but are 9 position adjustable and I like that on a truck that is sometimes empty and sometimes loaded and/or towing. I only use all the way soft or all the way firm. I've had the same springs with Tuff Country's shocks on a truck I didn't tow with ('72 K/20) and did haul with some and it rode really well as well. If you move your spring mounts back and go with 56" rear springs you'll get an even better ride. The same for the front,to go with 52". On the front you'd go with 2" less lift because moving the mounts back gives you 2".

If you want a 'good ride', get a 2WD.

To me,a 4wd rides better than a 2wd. I don't need to ride on a cloud and the firmness of a solid axle/leaf spring 4wd beats the mushy dip and pitch of a 2wd in my book. There are leaf springs that give a much better ride than others and I think that's what Hilljob is asking about. He said "best ride",not "good ride" anyway

Re: which lift kit ultimatly gives the best ride

I have always used Rancho springs and shocks, and have never had a ride issue. But I am cheap.

If you want the ultimate in leaf suspension, call these guys

Hang on to your wallet, but worth every penny spent (If you got it).

Re: which lift kit ultimatly gives the best ride

I'd say any of the kits made that offer a softer/better ride will do ya. Basically,it's either the old school stiff kits or the one they offer for a softer ride/more flex. Some don't even offer that,so forget those. Kit to me means off the shelf package of parts to lift your truck. There are custom springs and also other mods for better ride/flex. Things like shackle-flips on the rear and using longer leafs by moving the mounts.

Welcome to the board DrDefunk. On the old black 4x4 I think I had Rancho 5000's, those rode pretty nicely.

And for those following this thread that know me ... DrDefunk is a very long time friend of mine (going on 40 years). He is the new owner of my green 72 K20 and he is already making it a much better ride. I think my trucks are happier when they leave me and go to new owners =)

Re: which lift kit ultimatly gives the best ride

I know this I went with just blocks in the back and now my truck wheels hops like a ***** when you drop the hammer on it and it did not before. I will be buying rear spring to get my lift in the future.

That feather bedding is nice until it gets all clumpy. That chicken rode in my truck and shivered the whole time.

Re: which lift kit ultimatly gives the best ride

As mentioned previously Tuff Country EZ rides are supposed to be the ticket. They have the lowest advertised spring rate of the major brands. Also greasable bushings help preserve smooth operation, and good shocks help. I'll let you know how the EZ rides in a 2" lift with some bilstein 5125's do in a couple weeks...

Just do a search here in the 4x4 section, or start a new thread asking the big question. Im pretty sure its been covered before though.

See ya sometime this weekend when you pick up more parts. Just give me a holler.
