parking brake woes

I have my parking brake cable adjusted as tight as it will go and the lever can only be pulled up a couple of notches but my brake still won't keep me from rolling backwards. Forward holds fine but backwards I may as well not have the brake engaged. Any ideas?

have you checked to see if the cabels inside the sleeves from the rear backin plats move freely? they have a tendency of rustin up over the course of 40years and not allowig the brake to b fully engeged

That was exactly the issue I had with Reveille. The cables going into the rear drums were rusted up. Pulled them out, clr'd them and then oiled them up good. Works like a charm now even under almost full throttle!

^^ My thoughts exactly. Recently replaced my entire e-brake system from the pedal back. Cables were seized solid in the rear sleeves. Fairly simple job. The hardest part is drilling out the swedge pins which attach the rear cable sleeve brackets to the frame.
