Trying to remove my axles to get them re-drilled. The lock pin broke on me and i had to get one of those extractor kits to remove the rest of the bolt now the cross-shaft seems stuck.??? Any ideas, i tapped on it a bit but seems stukc and doesn't want to move scared i will break something. Am i missing something else?? thx in advance

Re: spider gear cross shaft
That cross shaft should push out with your finger. I just tried to take one of mine apart and I beat on the pin with a 10# hammer and punch and it only moved 1/2" in either direction. I could see it was badly worn and maybe oval so I finally gave up and threw it in my scrap pile. My other one pushed out with a finger.

Re: spider gear cross shaft
Make sure your axles are pulled out as far as they can. Sometimes if they are pushed in, the ends will catch on the pin and hang it up.
Also, if the lock pin broke, you could have something still in the hole that is locking the center pin up from coming out.

Re: spider gear cross shaft
The pin has to be out to remove the c clips , I suspect he can't get the pin out ... Last time this happened to me I got a very large hammer and a brass drift and beat it INTO THE CARRIER ,(otherwise you run the risk of the carrier breaking out at the pin) bout 10 big whacks and the lockpin sheared ..Then it was no big deal to remove the remains of the lock pin and crosspin and replaced it with a new one ...

Re: spider gear cross shaft
I know the pin has to be out to remove the C clips but I have seen a flat spot worn on the center pin and if the axles are pushed in (they have a little play) the can hang the center pin. Just making sure you pull the axles out as far as they can so they are not rubbing the center pin.

Re: spider gear cross shaft
yea i got the lock pin out all the way..it broke off after the threads so i used a extractor and got the rest pulled out. The cross shaft just doesn't want to budge even with the lock pin out. I will try pulling out some on the axles to see if any play helps relieve some tension.

Re: spider gear cross shaft
Does it slide at all? Maybe it has grooves worn into it?

Re: spider gear cross shaft
Well I don't have play in Axles sliding any. Guess I will try some heat on the cross shaft next maybe it is worn-even though it seems fine.
