Replacing gear shift lever

Hey guys, was wondering what the best way to removed the gear shift lever on my truck is. The one in my truck is cut about 1/2 way down (no idea why anyone would do that) so I need to replace it. Rather than replace the whole column, which is fine, I'd rather just replace the lever, looks like I can knab one for $22. Looks like a pin that holds it in place. Do I tap that pin out and then it pops out? How hard is it to pull that pin? I'm guessing it's not easy from the looks of it. Was going to bend the ends in towards the center, and then tap it out with a drift.

Thoughts?

Re: Replacing gear shift lever

I've popped the rollpin out with a 3 1/2 inch spiral nail used as a drift. then just remove the shifter and put the new one in. You can't bend the ends in. It's hardened steel.
Tap! Tap! Tap!

Re: Replacing gear shift lever

Ahh that's what I thought. Hadn't tried to do anything yet, so I'll skip the bending part LOL! I have have plenty of 3.5" nails, good idea. So I'm guessing I reuse the old pin, or maybe the new shift lever comes with one.

Thanks!!

Re: Replacing gear shift lever

If the old one slides out easily get a new one if the new arm doesn't come with one.
Parts store should have them.
