Ready to pull engine but need help from the experts

All, I have the engine ready to be pulled. I have the wench with a leveler on the engine. the bolts are out, and I could pull the engine through to the tranny but want to leave tranny on jacks. How would I remove the tranny from the engine with the tranny supported on jacks and the engine supported by the wench? Or should we pull the hole thing up at once. Seems to heavy.

you should pull the fan and radiator out for extra clearance. Leave the tran mount bolted to frame. And slide the clutch pack off the input shaft of trans, but depending on how long ago it was separated. If it has been awhile. Then gooood luck.

I believe you will either need to pull motor and trans together, or pull trans first, then pull engine...I think that some of the bellhousing bolts are inside of the bellhousing, and the rear mounts are on the bellhousing....

The cab is off the truck and only the engine, tranny and clutch remain. I removed all 4 front bolts and 2 rear bolts. I have it supported on 4 jacks under the tranny and hoist on the engine.

You can leave the trans in but you will have to pull the bell houseing out with the engine. Like Slim says there are 2 bolts behind the flywheel. You need to pull the clutch & flywheel to get to them.

I usually figure out how to run a board, piece of channel Iron or what not under the trans from frame rail to frame rail hanging it off the frame rail how ever I can to hold up the front of the trans. Sometimes you luck out and there are a couple of bolt holes in the right places.

Guys, the advice on this board is invaluable. I got the engine and tranny out this morning with the advice given buy you all. Check out the pictures. Next is to remove the bell housing from the engine. I got the engine mounted across the frame still on the hoist. I plan to mount it on my engine stand. I need to remove the BH 1st. Correct?

glad to see you did it. I have to do that to mine eventually but torque tube thing is my fear. never had to disconnect one of those.Pulled a few motors and a few transmissions but none this old with a torque tube.

tttuba, I haven't removed the torque tube y - seems difficult and I want to make sure I don't break anything that cost alot. Good luck on yours and let me know how it goes.

Not sure how lucky you are are but you may want t o wear proper foot wear when you are working around suspended iron. Just saying.

When I was an apprentice millwright the old timers would go around dropping wrenches on your boots to make sure you had the company required steel toe ones. I still have a pair I use for foot damage control. My grandfather tore off the end of his boots with an old school lawn mower, he nailed it to the shop wall as a reminder....
