Re: Halen's First Truck
Ok, it's been awhile since an update. The truck has taken a few turns. We stripped the original truck up top and kept the doors, hood, fenders, interior pieces, etc. The cab was junk and the frame was weak in a few spots so I didn't feel comfortable with it.
We purchased a 67 swb frame from Rusbuilt a few months back and today she made her first purchase at O'Reilly's with her own money. She wants it to be a stepside and still wants it to look patina. She also wants it bagged, but that's not going to happen. We will do a 4/6 drop on it.

Re: Halen's First Truck
It's awesome to see the old ways being handed down to the younger generation. I hope my son wants to come out to the garage and help me with my/his truck when he's older. You gonna do a spare tire step side or a nice round one?

Re: Halen's First Truck
Got a pretty smokin deal on Craigslist. Picked up these original upper and lower control arms that have been powdercoated. Also, they have brand new ball joints, bearings, upper control arm shafts, and lower control arm shafts. AND, drop spindles. Got them for $300!

Re: Halen's First Truck
I picked up a 66 SWB Fleetside this weekend to part out. I got it to help pay for a few of the aftermarket suspension parts for her frame.
I decided on the motor for it and it's going to be the 250 inline 6 that came with the 66.

Re: Halen's First Truck
She also found an inspiration photo she likes. We'll have to see how close we stay to this over the next 6 years. She's pretty set on the mint green which I'm fine with, but she says she wants shiny wheels. I'll have to work on her over that. Still don't know what year to make it yet.

Today is Halen's 10th birthday. She got her first set of tools from me today. 6 years to the deadline.

Re: Halen's First Truck
We've been stockpiling parts this week. I bought a 66 to part out to make some money for her build.
We ordered: Shock Relocators Adjustable Panhard Bar Front Drop Springs C-Notch Also traded the fleetside tailgate off of the 66 for stepside tailgate for her truck.

Re: Halen's First Truck
Not much of an update because I'm waiting to get a buddy's crappy F-150 out of my driveway so I can move her frame up close to the garage to work on it.
She decided that she wanted to name the truck "Andes" after Andes mints because she wants it to be mint green.

Re: Project "Andes" - Halen's First Truck
Okay, finally got my buddies wrecked F-150 out of the way and dragged Halen's frame up off the grass and put it on jackstands. We bought four drop KYB shocks off ebay yesterday and made a trip to O'Reilly's and picked up a couple of U-Joints. Trying to gather everything we need for the frame first. Looking forward to start grinding on it tomorrow.

We both got home about 3:00 today and started to tear it down. 2 hours later and walla! Shocks came in the mail today also.

Re: Project "Andes" - Halen's First Truck
Finished taking the frame down as far as I'm going to take it. Trailing arms are off and it's almost ready for pressure washing. I did install the passenger side C-Notch today.

Re: Project "Andes" - Halen's First Truck
Thanks Dwane, we have to buy just a few more frame pieces than we will have everything to do it. Molded brake lines, automatic crossmember, fuel line, pass side rear bumper bracket, and may need to change out the core support brackets. I thought it was a 67 frame, but noticed that the gearbox holes are dimpled out. They didn't do that on 67, only 68-72's. So I need to find out what year it exactly is. I think we are leaning towards making it a 69-70.

Re: Project "Andes" - Halen's First Truck
I have read here that someone said their 67 had the dimple too, so maybe a late production run? Vin should be on the driver side top of the rail behind the front A arms, should match the Vin on the cab.

Re: Project "Andes" - Halen's First Truck
There's not a VIN there. Also, I bought just the frame, no cab.
