Yeah if I had to choose between those two states, Illinois wins by a landslide

Re: Im moving to Texas

Thanks men. I arrive in Keller. I drove a 26 foot Penske truck. No fun, but made it. Next I will drive the 87. These houses down here suck. Most are 2 story. That I don't want. And a lot have side entry garages, or rear entry. That I don't want. My daughter works in Coppell. So we are looking in that area, but not Coppell, because all houses there have side entry. I want a garage, and my wife wants a big closet. Later.

Go to Keller, Coppel, or Flower Mound area, and you will see that most new homes are two story. Small garages, and some areas are only side entry garages. Most have HOA's. I hate HOA.s. I found a home in Roanoke, but the garage is only 23wide x 20 deep.

I hear ya man. I'm living in a house from the 60s. Single story but all of the new ones are two story. I'm on Wall Price and there are several single story older homes out here. From here to 35 is Heritage which is all two story tiny garage houses.

Probably from where I am to Roanake is good territory for what you are looking for though. Maybe even Watagua.

I may have to buy a piece of land in Flower Mound and build. Land is hard to find. My daughter and son-in-law plan to move there to be closer to work. He drives one and a half hours to work each day. They are in Keller now. She drives to Coppell each day. I hate the way people drive here.

You need to get out of those neighborhoods and subdivisions. There is country land and single story houses with barns or big garages all over this state. Driving is part of living here, we base how far things are by length of time not miles. Also every city has its own driving habits. I can drive all over Houston everyday and have no problems, but I'll drive around Dallas if I can, because I hate it so much.

That sure is nice to hear. That's been my thought process my whole life. Then I move to Arizona only to find that people here think 10 miles is too far to go anywhere,,,cracks me up

Speaking of driving habits,,,,absolutely horrible here, worst I've seen along with Cali, but I'm told we have so many California implants here so.....

I've always been fascinated with Texas. Since it's just a huge state, I can't see it all on a short vacation Not sure what town in Texas would suit us best. Need property (2-5 acres) and at least a 40x60 garage, and I don't want to live in a county with emissions testing. Don't mind driving an hour to get anywhere so that's not a problem.

I would imagine most of the good paying jobs are in the Dallas/Ft worth areas, if there is such a thing. Don't like Tornado's or Hurricanes.

Weather changes so much from North to South, East and West (big state). I do know North Texas around Amarillo has some horrible weather at times (friends live up there) Very flat, alot of wind, and cold in the winter time with occasional snow.

Some of these small towns you guys are mentioning must be suburbs of a bigger town? Never heard of them before.

You just described most places away from the bigger metropoliton areas. No emissions testing when you get about 75 or 100 miles from Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin. There are good paying jobs all over Texas, it just depends on what you want to do.

Welcome to texas

Im in east tx, in the Tyler area. No emissions for me, easy inspections, and live 15 miles from Tyler so not too far from civilization.

We moved here to watch my daughter and son-in-law's kids when they have some. So we have to live in a congested area. The freeways in Dallas are the worst. I told my wife I won't drive into Dallas.
