Re: Need new exhaust, where to hear mufflers?
Me too! I also can't wait to not hear the exhaust leaks I have now! I wish I was going to notice a fuel mileage improvement but I doubt that's going to happen since I'm only replacing an existing dual exhaust system! My current pipes measure 2" OD, I think they started at 2.25 and got smaller as they rusted away!

Re: Need new exhaust, where to hear mufflers?
Now that I have my new flowmaster 40s and my pipes will be here Wednesday I'm wondering if it's best to weld each joint or use the supplied clamps? The pipe kit I got dumps behind the rear tires, my present system dumps out the back, is there a benifit over each exit? I wanted to run them out the rear but they didn't have a set, I'm sure I can cut the tailpipes, turn them back and weld them back together but is it worth the trouble? Will I notice a big difference in sound going out the sides over going out the rear? This will be my first exhaust install and I'm not too proud to take any advice you guys may have for me! Thanks! Aaron.

Re: Need new exhaust, where to hear mufflers?
Sorry it's so late but here's a pic of my setup. ram horns to an x-pipe to flowmaster super 44's, around the diff (unfortunately right where my bump stops were...) and straight out the back. I'm trying to decide on tips right now, but as it sits it isn't that loud while you are driving. Right around 30-40 mph seems loudest but even with my 4 speed at cruising speeds it quiets down enough to be pleasant. Has a nice raspy rumble when you start it up though. I'll see if I can edit the video I took and put it up here. Oh and I asked him to put it together with a few band clamps so it could be easily taken apart if I needed it to.

Re: Need new exhaust, where to hear mufflers?
I had this new setup done about a year and a half ago. 2.5" pipe with x-pipe and Magnaflows and tips dumped out behind the fenders. This whole setup cost just under $400
My only dislike about the Magnaflows is they're too quiet at idle. They have a nice growl at WOT and they don't drone inside the cab very much at all. They make great sleeper mufflers. My next mufflers will be Borlas.

Re: Need new exhaust, where to hear mufflers?
Here's a shot from the side to see how they tucked the exhaust closer to the frame, and to see how the tips dump.

Re: Need new exhaust, where to hear mufflers?
I got half of my new exhaust installed today after thirty interuptions and two broken studs on the exhaust manifold. The pipe kit I got from Summit fit perfect except the flanges that hold the pipe to the manifold were drilled wrong, I had to file the holes inward as the pattern on my bolts were a smaller diameter. The kit came with more than enough hangers, clamps, nuts bolts and washers and everything fits nice and tucked under the truck. I will finish it up tomorrow and post some pics and some audio.

Re: Need new exhaust, where to hear mufflers?
I will be running my pipes out the side and I'm not sure how far behind the tires to run the tips. You guys have some pics? Thanks!

Re: Need new exhaust, where to hear mufflers?
Finally got to really hear my new exhaust today, what a difference! The interior is much more quiet than it was with the rotten old pipes and glass packs. Outside it sounds like a hot rod! It's not as loud as it was unless I stand on it but just putting around its nice and mellow. When my spine recovers I will get some video of it. I have a little tweaking to get my tips to match up but it can wait till I feel better. I had to order a kit for a 73/74 and the pipes exited about 2" past the rear tires, I cut a wedge shaped piece at the elbow and pulled them back and welded it back together so now they come out at an angle and come out about 6" in front of the rear bumper. Now I need to replace the stainless Dynomax tips for some Flowmaster tips! (probably not, I'm not THAT anal!) thanks for all the suggestions and help during my virtuous exhaust install!

Re: Need new exhaust, where to hear mufflers?
Heres a video of my trucks new exhaust and a walk around. My camera sucks or more likely I had it on the wrong setting so the color looks way off in the sunlight! The video is kinda choppy cause I suck at video and had little memory left on my memory stick. Anyway, lets see if this works!

Re: Need new exhaust, where to hear mufflers?
I'll post some pics of the install tomorrow. Maybe a better video if I can figure out my camera! I wish the new exhaust smell would go away soon, I smell it even after I go in the house.

I'm afraid you're going to have to give me that truck.

Re: Need new exhaust, where to hear mufflers?
When I took my exhaust apart I found that someone cut the valve out of the heat riser, I went ahead and removed it since it wasn't doing anything. I'm wondering if I should have replaced it with a new one? Would it really make a difference in warm up times?
