Re: 1968

Today me and my son age 9 took apart the bed box. I am starting to fix all the spots where my Brother-In-Law showed me. How I know what he looks for when he does the body work. I know there will be some that he will have to work out this next month.
I started with the steps They needed nothing but sanding and primed white. I also painted the orange. They came out real nice. as you can see.

Re: 1968

Tomorrow I am going to put another coat on the steps. This way they will have a lot of paint to protect them.

Re: 1968

Today, I sanded and primed and painted the front bed pannel orange. It looked ok untill I painted it gloss orange. there is a couple spots that has a small little dent. about the size od a pencil end.

I am going to leave the bed pannel just like it is. I will try and do one piece at a time. Tomorrow i will work on one of the bed sides.

The front bed panel looks nice George I wouldn't worry about it being perfect it's the bed after all, plus it's a driver not a show truck.

I know it is only a driver and not a show truck. But I guess my wife is rubbing off on me. She is a perfectionist.

Re: 1968

Today I rested almost. I was going to repaint the front bed pannel. It was not as shinny has everything else. I did not have enough of paint thinner. I thought I did. But today I looked at it and compaired it to the steps and there was and is a difference. So tomorrow I am going to repaint it.
I removied the front sway bar and bushings. I had new one's on the truck. But when I installed the blue poly bushings a few months back. I did not like them so I ordered a new set of red poly to match the tie rod ends boots. The new one's has a grease fitting already installed. So I cleaned them up and posted the on the parts board with brackets. Here is a picture of the ones on the parts board that I posted.

Re: 1968

Today I repainted the front pannel on the bed box. I light sanded to skuff the paint so the new paint would stick. This time it came out sweet. Then I started to sand one of the bed sides. Had a few small holes that I welded up.Then I applied some bondo. It fixed it up real nice. Sanded with 80 grit and then used 180 and shoot some more primmer on the bed side. There is a few small places where I will need somemore bondo. around the bed stake holes. I thought I had it looking good. But the white primer shows all the places I missed. about the size of a pencil point. I wouldn't mess with it but it is on the top rail. so tomorrow I will finish it up and paint it orange.

I put it in the sun and bakes it dry. 94 in the shade. In the back ground you can see where I am drying more sand blasting sand. I will be using it in the future maybe.

Re: 1968

Today I finshed installing the insulation board in the ceiling in the shop. What a difference a day makes. Now I want have to work in the heat anymore. I have a 110 AC unit I am going to install in one of the windows. I also recieved some parts from a fellow board member. A power steering unit with hose and brackets. Top quality to say the least. A battery tray and now I can install it in the engine compartment. and install the power steering pump after I clean and sand blast it and paint it up.

Re: 1968

I'm no expert by any means, but I remember my brother telling me that too much (too thick) of paint can chip more easily. Just mentioning because you said you were going to shoot the steps some more. Maybe I'm mistaken of what I remember and someone else can chime in. Otherwise, looking good

Re: 1968

Today I started in cleaning up the shop after the insulation install. What a mess. Got that done and I sand blasted the power steering pump and brackets. also the new battery box. But the wire I had holding the battery box broke and it fell to the dirt and it was a mess also. So tomorrow I will take a another look at the battery box and see if it needs to be sand blasted and re painted.

Tomorrow I will install the power steering and batter box.

That looks just like the power steering pump I put on my truck. Too bad the battery box fell, hopefully it won't be too bad. Stay cool, George!

Re: 1968

well today I installed the battery box. The bolts that attaches to the rariator core support were a little off. About 1/8 of a inch, but with a little strap I pulled it over and done deal. looks good. The part that hit the dirt yesterday is where you can't see it. So I didn't have to re-paint it. No one will ever know but me.

After that was done I installed the power steering pump. What a job that was. One of the bolts attaches to the motor mount bolt. Not enough room for my hand to get in there. So I took the mounting bracket off the pump and then I could get my hands to install the bolt. It took me about 2 hours to install the power steering pump. Still didn't get the hoses on the gear box yet. It started to get too hot so I will take he rest of the day off. That is for tomorrow. Also the starter will go on tomorrow.

Then I painted the fan with the hamered brown. The same color as the brake booster.

I am satified with the progress of today. I hope I can do as well tomorrow.
