What spark plugs do you use?

I've always ran ac delcos in my chevy's, but lately, the quality seems to have gone down. I went through about 2 dozen off the shelf, many had badly bent electrodes, some were cocked to the side a lot, some were nearly smashed closed. All were oily and the porclien stained. Some almost looked used.

So, I am thinking of switching brands, and am cuirous what others use.

It seems like one of those topics like oil. No one has a good reason why they run one over the other often. It's usually a brand loyalty that is often pasted down.

NGK, Denso, or Autolite. The Delcos have gotten very expensive for what you actually get. NGK has a good platinum plug for a decent price.

Re: What spark plugs do you use?

I've tried many brands that were supposed to be better everything from platinum to iridium plugs. But i have come to the conclusion that the ol' champion copper style plugs with the correct heat range are not only the least expensive but tend to perform just as well if not better due to they make more heat ranges of them that you can dial into your setup.

I switched over the the E3's in my big block and absolutely love them. They are a little more pricey though.

Re: What spark plugs do you use?

My brother works at a Chevy dealer so I always get the AC delcos on the cheap. Mine looked fine when I got them out of the box. Maybe its where you're buying them from?

Re: What spark plugs do you use?

AC Delco when I can, Autolite when I can't. Both great plugs. Copper always, swap em out every 20,000 to 30,000.

Oh - and I work at an autoparts store. Sounds like someone did a damaged return/swap, and another person put them back with the new ones, instead of junking them. It sounds like you got some used ones (how they made it past the return is beyond me) but return em and tell them you opened them up and they looked like that. They might give you some guff, but hold to your guns, insist you're telling the truth and if all else fails, demand to speak to the manager. No one puts up that much of a fight that is lying. They usually turn around.

Good luck!

Re: What spark plugs do you use?

I usually run copper AC Delcos, never had a problem. Once had a set of Autolites and no problems with them either. The only plugs that ever gave me trouble were Champions, and that was a long time ago.

I thought they were returns as well. Went through a bunch off the shelf and they all looked like this.

Re: What spark plugs do you use?

I use the ACCEL shorty plugs, which allows for more room around my headers. The plugs last a long time and I have been using them for quite a few years without any issues.

Re: What spark plugs do you use?

Always ran AC Delco R45 TS or TSX with a salvaged HEI distributor and never had a problem. Am trying the E3's based on several recommendations in my new ZZ383 but since I haven't started it yet ( this weekend pray God ) I really can't offer an opinion on them yet. I'll keep the forum posted! Wish me luck!

Re: What spark plugs do you use?

I cant say i care too much about my delcos in my 67 but my e3s in my blazer work pretty good.. One thing that keeps me from geting them for my truck is money money money But i always wondered if the designs of the e3s would even work to our benifits?? Idk if i can tell really with the blazer. They were the first set of plugs i got for it

Re: What spark plugs do you use?

I like the copper autolite plugs, or the accel shorty plugs if I am having header issues.

AC's in all my Chevy's ONLY.

Put Champions in my 63 once and they fouled in no time. Changed to AC's then and never looked back.
