Questions about Painted Details on Grill Shell 1972 Pickup

My original grill shell didn't seem to have the painted details (black) seen around the headlights on all the reproduction grills.

Am I missing something here?

Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

Yours probably did have the detail there when it was new (99.5% sure of this). Time, sun, rain and truck washing tends to fade and then remove the black paint there to zero over time....40 years worth.

71's had the black detail, 72's did not.

Turp Mcspray is right, I looked at some original brochures and the black band was only on the 1971, I learn something every time I'm here!

Re: Questions about Painted Details on Grill Shell 1972 Pickup

there is black detail on both - but 71 has more, that's all. The 72 detail has worn off of Cedorris truck - it should be painted as in the second picture he posted with black around the headlight buckets on the grille shell - but without the black band that came on a 71.. 71 detail is as was shown by hockeyjerk - that is a perfect 71 grille - and it includes the black band AND the black around the headlight buckets.

But none ever came from the factory like the first picture in cedorris' post, it's just worn off by time. 72's did have black detail as shown in pic #2 of post 1. 71's had that PLUS the extra full black band surround on the grille shell.

EDIT: I don't know of any place that sells a 71-specific grille aftermarket. That is sometimes why you see a correctly painted 72 grille on a 71 - many leave the perimiter black detail off when restoring.
