who is running without side mirrors?

Trying to decide if I should put mirrors on the outside. I like the look with out them but I want to be able to see also. Give me your thoughts. My truck is far from stock so I am not worried about that.

Re: who is running without side mirrors?

i couldn't even get my truck registered in CA without at least a driver's side mirror...
my 2 cents only - but I think the peep mirrors are way, way too small to be useful, driving with only 1 mirror makes the truck look crooked, and driving with no mirrors is unsafe. The factory did it right - if nothing else, throw on some gm sport mirrors, they look great and change for the sake of change at the expense of safety/function isn't always all it's cracked up to be.

I don't think I'd want to run without mirrors.

On my truck these mirrors look pretty sharp:

I have a driver side mirror but welded the passenger side up. Personally I dont need the passenger side because I am alway looking over my shoulder.

Re: who is running without side mirrors?

What's more important....looks or function? Sport mirrors and peep mirrors look great, but they are utterly useless. Judging from the pic in your avatar, RV mirrors will look way out of place on your ride.

Re: who is running without side mirrors?

Really, This is even a question? Need at least one outside mirror and two is a much better idea. On these trucks peep mirrors are pretty much a decoration perched up on the top of the door frame. Sport mirrors or bullet/racing style would be pretty much a minimum for me.

I'm not sure if this was directed towards me because i mentioned them.
they were oe on my truck and will fit the look i'm going for

and yes its is illegal here too you least need a dr. side mirror.
but at this time I'm only taken mine for joy rides around the block when needed. if i was too dd it again i'd atleast put the peeps back on(better than nothing)

we had the round mirrors like the above ones on the kids 67 and he didnt like them either(they looked better but hard too see anything plus they vibrated alot) so he put the bigger square's on the same arms its funny that the bigger mirror heads dont vibrate as much but they do whistle

too the op the round style mirrors look the coolest then the later smaller sport mirrors are second the rv mirrors look good on certain trucks but mostly bigger 4x4's. sorry for the story just wanted to explain

How about a little peep mirror like what cyclists put on their helmets.

Re: who is running without side mirrors?

I think these trucks look better with mirrors. I prefer the 1969 style round mirrors. When you take off the mirrors, it feels like something is missing.

Re: who is running without side mirrors?

Hey big d - I didn't catch you had a 67 when I first posted - that's why I recommend the GM sport mirror, but here's another idea. I think the original mirrors for your truck look great (with round head) - but to get away from the "big" mirror look, I've seen the stem shortened a few inches and it looks very nice, and custom. Just to be clear about the type I'm talking about - here's a pic of an unmodified one (shown on a 66, but same as your original stems). I think these look great on a shortened (stock) stem... Just another thought. When I posted the first time, I somehow had 71/72 stuck in my head.

oops, sorry square, you were readin my mind... I do still like the idea of slightly shortening the stem - it's custom, but nobody is really sure why when they look at it!

Re: who is running without side mirrors?

I drove my truck home 250 miles and hated not having mirrors. The whole time, I went straight to LMC the next day and bought 2 mirrors just like the ones post^ there.
Dont know how you can drive in traffic without them.

Re: who is running without side mirrors?

If you can't keep it stock, in the family is still a good idea. The late sixties bowtie mirrors are a nice change that fits in and does not cost a lot. sorry I don't have a picture on a truck but here is a kit picture that will give a good idea.

Re: who is running without side mirrors?

i would not even leave my drive way with out two outside rear view mirror's ...but the older you get the more stuff you need.....but i have seen some outside mirror's that are really bad, like the old jr. west coast mirror's . you can see behind you but they block things coming to the side of you....like a semi truck.....

Re: who is running without side mirrors?

Since I have a small back window 67 GMC and I did not want any holes I used the convex 3" peep mirrors I found online for about $15 each. The driver side works great as soon as you get used to looking up insted of down! Passenger side is ok but does not have enough adjustment and is only good for the blind spot not for far away.
