Re: New guy with a '66 stepside
It's incredible how clean and straight this truck is. Thanks for the additional photos.

Thanks...I'm a big fan of the hubcaps as well. It really is in great shape. A few dents in the passenger bedside fender and slight crease in the drivers door. But for a 46 year old farm truck that got used....it's pretty remarkable. |

Re: New guy with a '66 stepside
Cool truck sir! The interior is in fantastic condition, the inst cluster looks like it has been restored. Wish I had my original steering wheel.

Re: New guy with a '66 stepside
thanks guys...glad ya'll like the red. i'm not gonna paint the truck or anything and the wheels werent original so i figured they are the one thing i could add a little something to, to make it stand out a little.

Re: New guy with a '66 stepside
JC, what is that where the choke knob would have been? right below the GEN light.
Here is my inst cluster (pretty faded, and the bezel is a wee bent), and a shot of my truck, just picked it up in March. Craigerr

Re: New guy with a '66 stepside
funny you mention that...i deleted talking about it out of my last post. i have the knob in my glove box. looks like the threads were stripped on it so the PO just put a wing nut on it to make it functional. its on the short list of things to fix, along with the glovebox trim that is sitting in there with it as well.
liking your truck a lot! what are your plans for it? |

Re: New guy with a '66 stepside
Thanks jc
You could probably drill a hole through the knob and use a set screw to hold it in place, or a knew knob and cable are pretty cheap from Classic/LMC/ etc. Someone added a Holley 4bbl, with electric choke to mine, dumbass should have left the knob in place@#$%^&* My plans are to mostly drive and enjoy it this summer, tinker here and there. This fall I will remove the front sheet metal for bw, and primer. Update the front suspension with springs, shocks, 2-1/2" drop spindles, disc/power brakes. At this time I will blast and paint the front frame. Plan to have it all buttoned back up for next summer, then plan the following winter's projects. I may take a run at power steering this winter too. Whatever I do my plan is to work from October to April, and drive from May to September.

Re: New guy with a '66 stepside
switched up the wheels...red was just too much for me i think, even though i liked it. went with a more subtle green that matches the interior a little better.
also welded up a y pipe and stuck a knock off flowmaster on it this weekend. sounds good but resonates the cab quiet a bit... really want to get the rest of the pipe ran out behind the rear tire |

Re: New guy with a '66 stepside
Looks like a new motor for me....got a crack in #8 cylinder. My dad is going to look at another 66 this weekend with a 292 that he might sell me the motor out of, so that might be the direction I take. I like the simplicity of that option, but I've also been keeping my eye out for a good deal on an LS/LQ type motor.
