SPID 16.5 Wheel Question

I am assuming that the SPID for my truck indicates it originally came with the 16.5x9.75 wheel option. I have always thought that the "10.00-16.5-6 PR ON-" indicated this fact and that it came with "6 ply rated" tires.

Is this correct? I am looking to put it back to a more original look.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Re: SPID 16.5 Wheel Question

I'll be interested to see what the answer is, but I suspect it won't involve factory 9.75" width wheels. Those would be the correct width for 12.00 -16.5 tires, while 10.00 -16.5s typically mount on 8.25" wheels.

Re: SPID 16.5 Wheel Question

Good point. Does anyone have a SPID stating the 12.00-16.5-6 PR? That might be the answer.

Re: SPID 16.5 Wheel Question

Sorry Guys,
The 10.00-16.6/C (6PR) On-Off Road tires coded RR2 were offered only with the 8.25" wheels in '72. There were also the R79 highway tires as well for K10, K20. C20 and C30s. Didn't check but they were also available on Blazers as I recall. The reason you have it listed three times with three different codes were as Fronts, Rears and Spare. These replaced the default tires. On a K series they had to match. On a C series you could see these just on the rear with smaller fronts or a similar matching size Highway tread, The R79s. The spare could be ordered to match either axle or even as a bare wheel in some cases.

Re: SPID 16.5 Wheel Question

Thanks for the insight! Were these tires the Firestone hi-traction type tires? I've only found one place that in Nebraska that sells the bias traction truck tire. TireRack only sells the BFG A/T now.

Does anyone have any ideas where you can buy "original" bias truck tires? Any experience with Nebraska Tire?

The only thing my 3/4 ton, '68 CST/Custom Camper lists on the SPID is the spare tire but they are all 8.25's.

Re: SPID 16.5 Wheel Question

Actually that code is for literally a bare wheel 16.5 x 8.25". Interesting no tires are specified but then sometimes things were left off SPIDS. Love the notation on the mud and snow tires at 27550, pure character.

Re: SPID 16.5 Wheel Question

Must have left the optional 10.00-16.5 tires off the SPID and only listed the spare wheel.

Wouldn't be the first one. I've done a number of Custom camper SPIDs that don't reflect tires on trucks that required an upgrade.

Then there are plants like Batimore that don't list trim codes. Guess if you can read the SPID you could ID the interior. :-)
