Anyone have pics of a heater assembly?

Mine is totally gone and its getting cold out. If someone could post some pics of how it goes together that would help a lot. Also I have a 66 and need to know what years will fit in my truck. I have been looking for 65 and 66 without luck so I'm hoping other years will fit. Thanx!

Re: Anyone have pics of a heater assembly?

deluxe or economy heater? The deluxe mounts on the firewall in the engine bay, the economy mounts under the dash.

You will also need the control panel, duct work and cables.

Re: Anyone have pics of a heater assembly?

Here are some pics that might help. Looks like I have the thrift air heater but I think any would fit. I'm not going to drive it in the winter but I would like to be able to take it for a drive when the streets are clear which can be any time around here. I just need to have the defrost work so I can see.

Re: Anyone have pics of a heater assembly?

Looks like you're missing the housing that mounts to the firewall that contains the heater core and blower motor and the lever that controls the door in the duct under the dash that switches from floor to defrost.

Housing:

Don't have a pic of the lever you need inside but someone that has thrift air heat should be able to provide one.

Re: Anyone have pics of a heater assembly?

Don...your truck came w/the deluxe heater. It mounted in the engine bay. jdl71 posted pics above of the unit out of the truck, this pic is w/it installed. You can easily convert to an economy heater though. Just need the econo heater and the two delete plates that go on the firewall.

Re: Anyone have pics of a heater assembly?

Your truck did originally have the Thrift Air heater. The heater assembly in the engine compartment looks pretty much the same as the Deluxe heater in the pic above. The Thrift Air has a smaller heater core and of course the different controls. The heaters from '64-'66 are interchangeable. I'm not sure if I have any complete heaters anymore or not. I would have to look. I know I have lots of parts and pieces.

Yes. One of these posts has a link to a heater specific thread and there is some confusion about that but 64-66 did have a firewall mounted core with both styles of heaters. I've personally had a thrift heater myself in a '65 and it had the firewall mounted core. Who knew something as simple as heaters could be this confusing. lol

Here's the thread

Re: Anyone have pics of a heater assembly?

Yeah, had me confused. I had always thought all 60-66 econo heaters were in cab. I have never owned a 64-66 though. Have always had 60-63's. Thats nice to know though.

Re: Anyone have pics of a heater assembly?

To my knowledge the '64-'66's did not come with the recirculating heater, just the '60-'63's. The recirculating heater is the one with everything in the cab, under the dash

Re: Anyone have pics of a heater assembly?

I've got a pretty much complete deluxe heater, but I can't guarantee the core doesn't leak, and I haven't had a chance to check the fan for operation. It does spin freely though. I'll see if I can check the fan tomorrow. Worst case, you would need a core and a fan, which are easy to come up with.

Re: Anyone have pics of a heater assembly?

This is the lever you're missing inside that controls the air door for floor or defrost:

Aside from the hoses, this should be all the components of the thrift air heater in and out:

Thats what I'm needing. I might be able to find the handle thats missing or maybe take the whole thing out and get a different one since mine rattles and makes all kinds of noise anyway. I found that LMC has a new control for it. My knob is missing but it looks like it pulls in and and out and also turns for fan speed. I don't know. Once I get all the parts and peices I should be able to figure it out. Thanx guys!
