Re: New member - just picked up a rare '63
I suspect I will end up taking this motor out of the truck and doing something else with it. Might make a good powerplant for a saw mill or something like that. lol

Then I don;t know what the problem is, originally I had aboyut 11 mpg, now up to 17 IF I stay at 65, push it past that and all bets are off.

Re: New member - just picked up a rare '63
a holley 500 carb, hei distr and set up would more than likely improve things. as he says he hasn't even had a spark plug out yet

Even when gas was less than a dollar a gallon, GMC V6s were known to be guzzlers. If you ever have one apart it is evident why-they are huge and heavy. One valve lifter is about the size of 3 small block chevy lifters, the pistons are about the size of coffee cans and very heavy. For the same reason, they don't like high RPMs. They are torquey, last forever, but drink fuel.

You have to love central Texas for preserving this truck! I'd have snapped that one up quick if I'd had found it! Good luck and would love to see it rebuilt.

I took the bed off of it today. I was dying to get all the rotted wood out of it. I'm going to put 3/4" plywood in it for now. I am kinda planning on just using this old truck to do chores with around here for the time being. I don't think I'm going to waste any time trying to fix the cab. I'll just use it as-is until either I find a better cab thats worthy of a frame-off or I run into someone else that wants it more than me. lol |

"Duel intake" ? Do you mean a 2-barrel intake? My engine is an E model, already has the 2-barrel intake on it.

"os gppd" ??? I still don't know what you're talking about with the "duel intake". My engine is a 305E - its 100% unmolested. It has a 2-barrel intake manifold with a 2-barrel Stromberg carburetor. It runs quite rich.

Re: New member - just picked up a rare '63
OK, You have the dual intake, you won't need one. I menat to type 'that is good', did not check before clicking reply. All I can tell you is whay I've done to my 305A to change it a bit. If you have not already done so, join Jolly Goodfellows' 6066GMC site.
