Sheetmetal guage for floor
In my searches I find 19guage is the standard for body panels.
I cant find anything on the floor. I need to repair a couple spots and need to know what gauge would be best for the floor. Also when I go to the metal supply what am I asking for? t304 stainless or what? |

Re: Sheetmetal guage for floor
Same thing I used to my floor patches & bed patches. Thick enough to weld easily, but still very workable. I tried welding it with .023" wire, but .030" seems to work a little better if you can leave yourself a little gap between your patch and the original sheetmetal.

Re: Sheetmetal guage for floor
Thanks guys.
And I'll just ask the dumb question so the next guy doesnt have to. If you are putting in a patch why not make it stainless? It wont rust... Maybe the texture or something is different so wouldnt want it on a body panel but hidden parts why not? Can you not weld stainless and mild steel together? |

Re: Sheetmetal guage for floor
stainless is a pain to weld and very very difficult to work and contour and bend is near impossible with simple hand tools
plus it is expensive as hell

Re: Sheetmetal guage for floor
Stainless will react with the mild steel and actually rust.Stainless to stainless won't rust, but any contact with common steel and it will.
