Aftermarket Disk Brakes?

Hello All.. I have a 1983 K20 looking to upgrade my brakes. I'm looking for bigger disk brakes up front and a conversion from drum to disk in back. Anyone know of a company that does this? Thanks much

Just got my rear disc conversons from http://www.blackbirdscustomtrucks.com/ last weekend. Gonna get them installed at the end of the month.

Ok, here it goes... you can turn your hubs down just a hair (1/16") front and rear. Then a modern slide on rotor works. In the fron you could either run a 14" Dodge 3500 rotor from an 08 and in the rear a 13.88" dodge 3500 SRW rotor from 08. You would only have to fab up mounts for the callipers.

If you want to go even larger in the front (what I did, but on a dynatrac D60) is a 04 forf F550 rotor, redrilled to 8x6.5" bolt cycle and 08 F550 callipers. Those brakes are 14.45" front. HUGE. Will fit some 17" wheels but normally requires at least an 18" wheel.
In the rear, I went with a complete 08 dodge rear setup with backing palte, OEM parking brake, etc. You have to fab up an andapter plate and weld that to the housing. The rear setup is not quite done yet, but the fron is and its great. I still need to swap the proportioning valve tpo a disc disc and also install the new master cylinder (form an 88 P30 motorhome). Then you will have OEM parts, nothing crazy custom and a HUGE improvement over the stock brakes!

Not for these old trucks though... maybe the 2WD halt tons, but not anything 3/4 ton and nothing for 4WD.

For? what it's worth i just up graded my 87 v20 with rear disc brakes. I installed a set of front stock calipers and rotors that i bought from Oreilly's along with a pair of brake lines of course, then i bought a nice set of backing plates for $65 shipped to my door. My brakes kick ass now. I have maybe $300 into the conversion. Something to think about.......

im thinking about taking two steel plates and drilling holes where the drums bolt on. then putting on a disc, and bolting the calipers to the same plate. seems difficult, but if i can see for myself

I got my conversion kit from www.diy4x.com. Have nothing but great things to say about the level of service and the quality of the parts. All told, I have $360 in the swap.
The second image shows where you would need to grind for clearance inside the wheel. My truck is a dually with 16 inch Alcoa wheels.
