Gaylord Bed Covers

Does anyone with a Gaylord bed cover live in a northern climate? I was curious how the locks do on them since they are on the top of the cover. I am about ready to buy one and was a little concerned about locks freezing up. Thanks..

I have had a Gaylord's cover on my 71 for 4 years now without any problems. It is keep inside a heated garage at night and I always spray lock de-icer in all the locks whenever I wash it.

I've had my Gaylord lid for eight years now, four of which were in Alaska (as cold as -53' F) and it was always left outside. I never had any problems with the locks, but I made sure the little covers were always on them to keep out the snow. I do have some other problems, but I have no idea if they are weather related or not. The rubber seal is falling off on mine and the hinges ripped a couple of the screws out of the fiberglass.

I use liquid graphite on most exterior locks.

After it dries it helps protect them.

Buy the lock caps, and keep them in good condition.

Above all, don't use anything with an oil base for lubrication. Just helps to draw dirt and such inside the lock. Then you have major problems.

Denny ; Don't have any cold weather problems here ,but the new keys and locks that are on mine have no guide tit for the round key so it made it difficult to get it placed right to open or close the locks. I had to put a white dot on the top of the lock so I knew where to place the key with out fumbling around.

Thanks Bill72BB, That is a good idea with the dot. I ordered the Gaylord today from California, they said it would take a month to get it. It was such a hassle trying to get it from a Missouri dealer I finally called Gaylord in California and they referred me to their dealer out there. I will be installing it myself. Missouri is the pits.

I know what you mean ,West Virginia everything was ordered and took forever to get . I used to get so pissed just trying to get spark plugs and tires for the motorcycle.
Now if you were out here in LA LA land we could have gotten you a blem and saved you some money.

I sent a blem back.

They were trying a new paint, had a chemical reaction.

The paint separated like a cracked dash. Looked bad for that type of cash.

They made a new one, sent it and then had a truck come and pick up the old one that was bad.

Its a shame to have to order everything from out of town. I just went to Texas in August for a transmission because these yahoos in Missouri can't build one if there life depended on it. The Gaylord dealers here in Missouri were unbelievable. We have two of them in the St. Louis area. The first one I called tried to sell me another brand and the one I had called this morning was real funny. I called and asked if they handled Gaylord products they put me on hold and then gave me a number to call. I call that number and it was some truck parts place that is not a Gaylord dealer. So I call back and ask do you sell Gaylord products or not?
The gal says yes we are a dealer but Susy (what ever her name was is not here right now). I thought ok its time to order from a state that has has their stuff together.

The dealer locally was too hard to deal with, called Gaylord direct.

They wouldn't deal direct, but gave me a dealer in California to contact.
