parking brake cable question

I put all new cables on my 71 SWB. My question is on the front cable. I snapped it into the frame and ran the cable thru the firewall grommet and attached to the pedal lever. My question is, is there a clamp or something that clamps the cable down to keep it from just pushing thru the grommet? When I depress the pedal it just pushes the whole cable thru the grommet, not just the inner cable, and bows it in the engine compt between the firewall and frame if that makes sense. Any help appreciated.

Re: parking brake cable question

There should be a small clamp that holds the cable to the inner fender. There is also a clamp that holds it to the parking brake assembly.

Re: parking brake cable question

I just went through this myself! Couldn't understand why I couldn't get the brakes to lock. Everytime I would push the pedal down, the cable housing was pulling it too.

What I found is the originals have a metal casing with spiral wires and the replacements are black smooth plastic or similar. The clamp on the brake assembly doesn't work properly for the replacement type.

To make it work for now (and it's a bit red neck-LOL) was to put a small hose clamp on the casing at the clamp location on the brake assembly. It works anyway! Keeps the casing from pulling in. Figured it would do until I think of something better.
