Attemp 1 doesn't look too bad in the pictures, but you aren't kidding about that cab corner. That's nasty! The sad part is that it was all bondo and if they'd spent another five minutes sanding they could have had it looking good. And your cam walked a lobe? I've never seen that before but I have dropped a valve by overrevving and trashed a nice/expensive motor. It makes a mess. This attempt is much better all around, keep it up.
