rear bumper brackets?
I pulled my heavy duty barden rear bumper and got a decent used smoothie bumper and brackets from a board member. I've got the brackets, but I'm not sure how they bolt on (much different mounting from the barden). The two outer brackets seem easy to figure out, but i'm confused about how the inner brackets mount to the truck. Any help, especially pictures, would be appreciated!

there are holes that the brackets line up with the outer and inner share a hole at the rear of the frame and the other in inner hole is in and up on the frame diagonal viewed from the side. hope this helps sorry no pics. Later Paul

Thanks Paul. The two inner brackets have a lip on each side. One lip goes all the way to the end, and the other stops about 4" from the end, and has a bend in it. Can someone tell me if the shorter lip with the bend goes on the top or the bottom?

I am having a similar issue, I got my bumper off of a step side to go on a fleetside. Are the frames the same and are the holes in the frame pre cut for all models?

Thanks for the pics Lee, that really helped alot. My brackets and frames don't line up like yours - the holes in the brackets are about 1/4" to short to fit the upper holes like on your truck. Instead, the holes (almost) line up with the lower slot that is visible in pics one and three in your post. This seem to put the bumper a little higher, and not at the angle shown in your pictures. The bracket on thepassenger side fits nicely this way, but the bracket on the driver side sits a bit too high and hits the two metal flanges (seen in your middle picture - one flange has the wires attached to it and the second is the end of the bed). I suspect the frame is bent or tweaked just a bit, accounting for the driver side bracket not lining up. I've got to grind a bit of the driver bracket to get it to fit before I can mount the bumper and see if it sits correctly.
Any ideas why mine is different? Are there different brackets or different bumpers? My truck is 1967 GMC 1/2 ton. I'm pretty sure the frame has not been messed with, since it's been in my family since about 1977. EDIT: I think I figured out the difference- my truck has leaf springs that attach to the end of the frame, in the same area as the bumper brackets. In the third pic that Lee posted, you can see two smaller holes above the bolt. These holes are used in mine to attach the leaf springs. I'm guessing this is why the brackets mount differently. EDIT AGAIN: I still think the leaf vs. coil springs are the problem. After messing with it some more, it's clear that I cant mount the brackets straight out, since they hit the lower pins used to hold the leaf spring mounts in place. I'm guessing there are different brackets for coil vs. leaf springs.

Yes, there is a difference between coil and leaf. Glad you got it figured out.
