wanna see your V-8 motor mounts

I got a 65 3/4 ton 4x4 that has tubular bar from frame rail to frame rail and the mounts are mounted to it I dont really like it but its there I was just wondering what all you other guys have switched to I am planning on a 572 eventually that is pumping none other than 650 hp just not sure i like the mount I got but want to see what others have thanks mine has a small block in it now

show us a picture of it, sounds like something that someone installed. where are the mounts situated and what trans is in there. is this also an original 4 x 4 or an after thought one?

yes its originally 4x4 the mount however is not it has the 4 speed tranny will get a pic here in a bit and instead of bolting into the frame they welded it but this is the one thing that was welded that is actually welded good the rest of the crap I have spent hours removing and cleaning up was not good welding infact more like chicken sh!t welds

I can get you a pic of the stock '63-'66 4x4 motor mount brackets tomorrow. If you are installing a big block, especially a tall deck, you will not be able to install the engine with the motor mounts in the original location. For what you are planning, I would convert to either a '67-'72 4x4 engine crossmember, or better yet a '73-'87 engine crossmember. The '73-'87 motor mount brackets will need to be modified to fit the early frame. However the '73 ans up motor moujhnts are far superior IMO. With either one, you will have to mock up your engine, trans and transfer case combo, so that you can position your motor mounts where they need to be for adequate firewall clearance.

I actually was thinking of using my 87 blazer crossmember and just trimming it down to fit the shorter frame of the 65 gonna use the cross member anyhow when we change motor to my 383 till I can afford to switch to the 572 I really really want to build (wife would kill me if I did it now) so I have to build my small block instead but gonna shoot for 500 with it got one now that is close sitting in the shop I already took all the suspension 8" lift springs and all shackles and put on the 65 frame just finished cutting new front shackle holes and drilling everything

If you check in the 4x4 build section I have pics of a 87 suburban crossmember and mounts that I used in my 63 4x4 conversion you do have to cut them down as the frame is shorter

the big block is going to have some issues at the firewall in the stock location. I know, I've tried, and mine is just a little 402 with stock low valve covers. I had to shift the whole powertrain 1-1/2" forward to make it sit comfortably.
I had both 67-72 and 73+ crossmembers but went with the 67-72 in my 66.

I am planning on moving it 2" if I can I dont run a fan blade I am gonna use electric fans

What transmission are you going to use? You probably already know that once you move the engine forward 2" that the old bellhousing mount crossmember will no longer work, and neither will your stock mechanical clutch linkage. Obviously if you are switching to an automatic with a new rear crossmember then it isn't a big deal at all!

is this a converted 4 x 4 or is it just the newer suspension installed. that is not the orig trans or tran case. more than likely a sm364 with coupled t/c

why not build or find a bbc and install that? that way all the problems you are going to run into are done and out of the wya for that 5Z2? your puttin a sbc in its place and nothing will work in the long run for the bbc, such as engine/trans placement....

i have a 454 in the stck location and a hei. 1962 gmc are the chevys differant? mine had a v6.

This is what I did on my 61 4x4.

I used a 67-72 x-member.

Its a 465 tranny and I put the 87 suspension under it moved it all to line up properly and yes I know it will have to move gonna use a 350 and 208 unless I get my 400 and put together gonna use the crossmember with my tranny and t -case and drill new holes

We got a lot of work ahead of us brake lines need moved and reran frame is gonna get shortened to a shortbed putting newer style gearbox on off the 87 also spent a hour and a half getting all the frame rails cleaned of all the crap that was gobbered on from the previous powersteering

I just used a 73-87 x -member in my suburban frame,just had to chop down the mount towers a bit.
