Take a look at the throttle cable. If anything is bent...replace it.
Actually, I think I would replace it just for general purpose. A stuck throttle can put a crimp in your day...and in your hood. |

Mine was like that as well, but it also had a cruise control built in. At around 50 - 60 the throttle would stick... Come to find out the bushings in my carb was worn out and the shaft was sticking in a few spots.
Just another thing to look for.

This happend to me after I put 71 style cable in 68 truck. The problem is with plastic housings for the cable at the carb. (one part is attached to carb. fitting and the other is atttached to the grommet that goes through the cable bracket). One part slides into the other and at times they can become slightly seperated and one end of the plastic will grab the front of the other and when you try to accelerate the pedal will be hard and suddeny it will release. I solved mine by using a razor and beveled the housing part that is attached to carb. fitting and put some silicone grease on the lip also.

I had an old truck that stuck every once and a while. It turned out to be the factory rubber floor matt. After 30 years it had a little pucker right below the gas pedal that would catch the pedal and cause it to act like a stuck throttle. Sometimes it is right there before your eyes.
