Clemdaddy is getting ready to put a nv4500 in his 66 1ton, it is a 2wd, it is out of a 92 2wd chevy 1 ton, what adaptors were you speaking of ? I thought this was a pretty straightforward swap.....?

oh yea, where does the shifter end up in relationship to the seat ?

let's have a look at this. it is not mine but a friends. I first posted it for jon as the fellow converted to 4 x 4 and also used the later suspension. The Captain recently asked me how the NV4500 was hooked up as he recently acquired on, so I thought that I would post the info for all. I am not that familiar with the 4500 but believe that most are in dodges and not that common in chevs. now does the one that Clem is putting in with the chevy bellhousing have the hydraulic t/o. If you want to mount these wit a std t/o you have to find a b/housing to work-this comes from Advance Adaptors. you mentioned that Clem's 4500 is a 2 wheel dr. trans and you didn't mention what he was using for a t/c. I could just drop that trans in mine as I am running an independent np205. most transmission-t/c setups in the last 35 years are combined units. so hoe is Clem going to marry that in his 4 x 4 as that 4500 2whl t/shaft is not going to work with other than an independent. If he is going with a combined application, what tran/case is he going to use and how is he going to combine them. 1 you are going to have to modify the t/shaft of the trans and again it is back to Advance Adapt or who-ever for an adaptor to couple them. I don't know why the is an adaptor for the linkage unless there is a clearance problem with putting a 205 behind a 4500.
as for where the shifter and the seat location is going to meet up is something that he will realize when he puts the body back on and has a seat there.
now I am just theorizing this, but imagine that is how it all came done. hope it helps. that is what a part of this game is, putting things together to work!

Re: nv4500 in a K10-20

The trans we have is from a 92 gmc 2wd truck, we have the gm bell housing, input shaft, the output shaft (where your transfer case went), the slave cylinder, the boots, and the clutch to pressure plate bracket. From what I had gathered we did not need any adaptors and would just have to shorten the driveshaft, and install a hydraulic clutch on the firewall.....????was I wrong ?

you were replying to a 4 x4 application and Clem I see now that I went back and reread it( Imust Have been just reading that other 1t 4 x 4 application) it is a 66 2 x 4 and you used the word adaptors. there were 3 used in the 4 x 4 one. figured that perhaps he was doing a conversion as the one in the pictures is.

the unit in the pictures shown is using the manual clutch linkage. the NV4500 does not bolt up in the std GM bolt pattern. the bellhousing that Clem has is made for the NV4500 specifically along with the hydraullic setup. therefore you have to use an adaptor to bolt it up unless you use that specific b/housing and hydraulics

General Motors

General motors used the NV4500 as RPO MT8 and MW3 in 8500 and GVWR light trucks from 1992-2006. 1992-2007 GM units used the corporate V8 bellhousing to engine bolt pattering. They had:

Input shaft measuring 6 5/8" in length, 1.125" in diamete with 10 splines and a .590" diameter pilot
2WD use a fixed yoke output; 4WD use a 32 spline output
1992-94 RPO MT8 units had a different bellhousing bolt pattern than GM 4-speeds, as well as right hand mounted hydraulic slave cylinder with fork-mounted throwout bearing and unsynchronized reverse

1995-2007 RPO MW3 units had the Dodge transmission to bellhousing bolt pattern; a concentric internal hydraulic clutch slave cylinder with integrated throwout bearing; and synchronized reverse

Re: nv4500 in a K10-20

so just to clarify if you have a 2 wheel drive gm style 4500 with the gm used bell housing clutch fork etc and are willing to go with the hydraulic master and slave cylinder everything should bolt right up to a small block chevy or whatever right ?

as long as that bell housing bolts up to your block I don't see why not and use your orig flywheel. It may be different with the later one with the hydr t/o bearing-spacing?
