I'm really loving the various junk yards

Can't believe how many awesome original parts I've found for next to nothing. I found a new yard today with 3 67-72 Chevy/GMC trucks. I've been picking on two from another location already. Today I found the molding piece in front of my rear tire that I was missing. Got it for 5 bucks. The nice thing too, is that it matches the rest of the molding, whereas buying that one piece new would really stand out. I also found two like new defroster vents (those damn things are always cracked and broken, but these are like new. Also got two like new defroster hoses.

Yesterday, I found a fully functional heater control. The one my truck came with snapped away from the rivets, and was hard to move the switches. The light didn't work either. Got a like new one for 19 bucks off a '71

I also got a like new glovebox liner for 5 bucks, a cab light lens of free, and a couple very nice original door handles.

I've noticed both yards didn't show any inventory at all for even having one of our trucks, but when I went back there, one yard had two trucks, and the other had three.

Anyway, here's a pic of my new molding piece installed. Looks so much better

Good finds. I used to live by some great yards too. I miss them here on the po' side of town.

Lol. Sounds like you and Longhorn disagree.

I really do like your wheels, but I found out they don't make those caps anymore, so even if I could get lucky enough to find a nice set used somehow, I could lose one due to a pothole or something, and I'd be screwed.

These wheels I've got are actually kinda growing on me. Especially now that I turned the tires black letter out, and shined them up. I need to do something with the center. I looked at the factory caps, but they look too modern and plastic. I may just paint the center axle piece black, and call it a day

They look good without hubcaps, too.
I wouldn't worry about hubcaps falling off if you did find a set. Mine snap on pretty tight. They're not going anywhere. @knock on wood@

What are you going to do about the lug nuts. The new style caps take a special lug nut so the plastic ones on the cap will thread over the top of the lug nuts. I know these are metric lug nuts and will not thread on the standard studs your truck has.

I had this problem when I wanted to put the 1990 SS454 wheels on my 71 1/s ton.

They may have a lug nut that works now, I don't know. I do like what you did to the caps to make them look more period correct. I hope you find a good way to install them.

They are readily available on eBay and at some swap meets. They are called dual or external thread conversion lug nuts. Available in 1/2" or 9/16". Look just like the factory lug nuts. Here's just one example.

Lugnutking on e-bay is where I've gotten both my sets, 1/2 and 9/16 I believe. Do like the mod on the modern cap too. Have you gotten the deeper cap to cover the Dana 60 yet.

I don't need a deep cap on my Eaton. Fits fine. I have both Hummer H2 17' and the also some early 2000s 16" aluminum whhels. I should try the Chevy wheels again since I last tried them in 2005 and I'm only about 85% sure I tried the rears.

Glad you like them. Here's a shot of one on a Hummer wheel. Basically it's just a weather resistant 3-1/2" adhesive black vinyl disc with an emblem pried from the trunk emblem on a turn of the century body style Malibu attached with Goop adhesive.. Most years had the blue with silver outline, some had solid blue or silver with a blue outline.
