Re: 1970 402 BBC build
The hp and torque are only limited by your wallet really. It all depends on what you expect of the truck. Towing, speed or mpg's have to be thought out. For a nice torquey bbc I would stick to a cam of under 510 lift. A dual plane intake and a qjet will provide good throttle response and off idle torque. There's lots of choices once you decide what you expect out of that 402. Even a stock fresh rebuilt 402 will roast the tires easy.

well i would like to get 400 hp and 450-500 torque. is that possible? and i have hooker super comp headers that are going on it also. gonna get full works done on heads, which are stock oval ports.

That should be very possible with that motor. Make sure you get a converter and transmission that will handle it....assuming it is an automatic.

Re: 1970 402 BBC build
400 hp and 450 torque is easily within your means. The oval ports are excellent for building torque the most important issue are cam and intake choices to suit your needs. Your builder will be able to help you get the most out of that engine. Good luck welcome to the forum.

yes its and automatic tranny. and i dont think the 700r4 will hold up to that even tough it has been pretty built. i know my rear end will hold up. also has 3.73 gears and posi rear end. and what would be a good intake and cam combo? and glad to be in the forum. been on a couple chevy ones and thi is the best.
