Anyone running a converted Dana 60 in their coiled shortbed?

It will be only a matter of time before my new 496 gernades my 12 bolt. Thinking about a Dana 60 for obvious reasons. They came in everything and they are everywhere. My concern is to find one that is the same length as the stock 12 bolt in my '68 so I don't have to order new 15x14 wheels. Actually longer would be even better because the ends will have to be cut off anyway for the conversion. Any thoughts??

A C/20 big block auto coil axle would give you a bolt in housing. Trouble is it would be a full floater. Maybe it would be a good basis for a conversion though.

I fully realize I will be cuting the ends off for the conversion. Given the fact that they came in long beds, will the trailing arm brackets on the rear end be in the right place? Didn't know if the trailing arms are longer and wider in a 20.

Pretty sure they all mount up the same. The parts manual shows the same service part trailing arm for 60-72 C10-20. But if I remember correctly the 20s have the strap along the bottom and production 10s do not.

Re: Anyone running a converted Dana 60 in their coiled shortbed?

Here this should clear things up. Factory '72 C20 powertrain chart listing the Dana 5500 axle application. Here is a parts manual showing the different Dana C20 applications as well. Then pages from the Spicer manual. Title Chevy page and C10 C15 C20 applications with BOM numbers. There are also Dana C25 and K25 leaf applications too. Apparently there was also a '70 down 396 Dana application that I didn't remember. It is not listed in the GM parts manual but the applications for '70 down show except for leaf, 396 or 4x4. So it is confirmed by not being there as a 12 bolt.

Re: Anyone running a converted Dana 60 in their coiled shortbed?

They are rare, but some GMC 1/2 tons had dana60 6-lugs. I had hoped to find one,but in reality I think I'm looking at the same issue, either find a coil C2500 rear or convert a leaf rear to coil. Then,I'll be talking to www.markwilliams.com
