Badass! Personally id shorten it up, make her single axle, and put a flatbed on it. Flat black all of it on 22/24 semis, and keep the motor under the hood anddrop a 572 or bigger with a 8-71. But thats me

We ended up getting another truck to use for some of the roof parts. I do believe I have another idea in store the the rest of the second truck!! 66' RatRod Roadster anyone??

my 1960 sales mans data book shows c50-c80 all with the 75 7/8 front tread; that includes the c and l designations... in 60 some of the c's had independent front suspension (torsion bar) , but I am pretty sure all the l's were straight axle/leaf... at least the couple 61's I have seen were that way...

Ever thought about cutting the axle? I have cut three.If the welder knows what they are doing the axle will brake somewhere else before the weld does. Cut in the center and remove 4 inches from each side. Spring pads are easy enough to duplicate. Just a thought.AND for the record if I have not told you this is one cool build. Any chance that you have another snub nose front cap around. I have a nast idea in my head.

We have the engine coupling figured out. We are going to do it so that they can be disconnected and only run the back engine when running down the highway. Our version of chevy's displacement on demand! lol

I cut a 55 truck axle (2 ton ) for an equipment trailer to haul a small dozer around and also the axles in both of my race cars. Get an exact center and remove the amount needed equally. You need to narrow it 8 inches. After cutting at the located centerline remove 4 from each side. Grind each side to a tapered section and use 1 inch piece of flat bar that fits in each groove front and back. Then start laying one fillet weld at a time. Make sure you have a welder that has the heat range / rating needed. Translation bigger is better. I actually used an arco industrial mig welder.
There is also a article that shows how to cut down a c30 heavy duty axle for a one tone on the stovebolt web site. It shows several pictures and how to put everything in the jig. Pretty nice article. Lmd |
