1951 Chevy / C4
Well here is the newest project. It is 48 GMC BURB's and his sons truck. It is getting C4 corvette suspension front and back along with a boxed frame and a tubular trans crossmember, plus a bunch of other things. Then there is a spare frame that is getting the same, but it is for his suburban. I had meet Ken on the forum and he is a great guy and then we meet at the nats east this past summer. It was great finally meeting someone from here. Here is the first picture of it and there will be many more.

Are you going to buy kits for the suspension or make your own?

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4
69CST-V, thank you.
itstheshu, the front cross member is a flat out one and I am going to make the rear set up. oldman3, Thank you. It has been a while. Hope you had a great Christmas and New Years also. I did, but it is good to back to working on things again. I did take a short break. reaper71, Thank you Atommik, Thank you. I know mine is waiting again , but you know how things are. At least it is driveable. 98layinframe, Good another twin. I can not wait to get into the suspension. Well it has been a while. With the holidays and a few little jobs completed. I am starting on the pickup. I am waiting for my plate steel so I am working on some of the sheet metal things. So I am going on a smoothing spree. The gas fill is gone, along with the door handles, all the lights on the fenders, the emblem on the front of the hood, the cowl vent, and a few other odds and ends. Tonight I peaked the hood. the hood was tacked together at the seam and then I formed a 5/16 rod to the profile of the hood and tacked it every inch or so. Then ground the ends to a nice pointy profile. Then I will use some ALL METAL filler to fill up to the top of the radius of the rod. Then use a little regular filler for the final fill. I should have my steel by the weekend and I am getting the 1 5/8 tube for the tranny crossmember also. Here are some pictures. Shannon

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4
It has been awhile since I posted. While I was waiting on my flat metal and tubing I worked on filling some things. Like the clearance lights on the roof, The drivers door handle and some other odds and ends. The chassis that was under the truck ended up being out of square by 3/8". So we decided to use the spare chassis and transfer the sheet metal over to it. I then stated on boxing the frame in the front. I cut out for the Flat Out c4 cross member. Fit it and welded it in, I still have to do the rack cut out and make some fillers pieces that I cut out getting it up in the frame. I put in some temporary braces on the top and bottom of the frame for when I took out the factory cross members. I took all the rivets out and removed them. Then figured out what holes I need to weld nuts to the inside of the frame because of boxing it. I then fit the boxing plates and welded them in. Then ground them all up. Next is to start on the 1 5/8 tubular x member for the transmission. Then onto the rear suspension after that. Then the fun will begin.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4
Lookin good, very interested to see the suspension build up! Which style of c4 setup you running on these? The 84-87 or the wider 88-96 setup?

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4
69CST-V, chev3600, oldman3, 4544speed, Thank you all
48 GMC BURB. Thank you, and glad you are pleased. 98layinframe, Thank you. I think it is the narrower style. I will try to throw the front wheels on for you and give you some measurements. I gave my roll cage bender a good work out tonight. I started to rough in the upper transmission x member. I welded in the new cross brace and have have to fit and cope the tubes to it. then I will bend up the lower one, it will be all one peice. The lower one will be angle down a few degrees to get a little extra room for the exhaust and the brake booster and master cylinder. Shannon

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4
Man I'd love to have a bender! Think thats gonna be my next larger purchase.
I noticed in couple of your pics theres a slot cut into the frame.. I'm assuming thats to clear the upper arm mount sliding the crossmember into place? Did you have to do this on both sides? Posted via Mobile Device
