I have a cab dilemma
I bought a 70 to 72 cab. Well while taking my 67 apart I noticed that above the front windshield is about 1/2" to the drip rail, well on the other cab its about 1". My cab is pretty bad off with rust and the other cab is ready to go.
My question is what would you guys do? Look for a good 67 donor cab or just use the 70 to 72 cab. Posted via Mobile Device |

well im not sure if your 67 fenders will work with a 70-72 cab correct me if im wrong i think a 68 front will but not a 67 if your plannin on using the front end ...i know that dosent help answer your question just thought id bring it up

No, fenders will bolt on just fine.
There's really only a couple "different" cabs. 67 was the only year for the small back window cab. There is also an "A/C" cab vs. a "non A/C cab." The cut outs/shape of the cab is slightly different on the passenger side firewall where the heater or a/c/heat box goes. You can cut/weld that area and swap it cab to cab, just more work, or you can smooth it all out and use an aftermarket A/C system. There are a few other little differences here and there, like where the gas pedal is mounted, but overall, if you have a nice solid cab, I'd put the nice solid cab on the truck. If your truck is a small window cab and you absolutely HAVE to have a small window cab... then they do make the panels to fix it.

one thing i have to add mitt I've done 3 cab swaps I had a guy that had a 1972 that was junk.He needed a new cab fast for his work truck.I found a 1968 cab found out the 68 had a big block, th400 He had a th350 the 72 had more options in his wire harness the 1968 was a complete cab complete with doors and seat and dash same color.white the 68 had roof lights.I swapped his cab and put the 68 on his.I decided to swap out the old 1968 fuse harness with his new 1972 that he just had put in 4 years earlier do to a fire.it took me a 2 weeks to finish it up bought in a body man to aline the fenders and hood.Now the 1972 is finished his truck was a Heater only truck the 68 was the same thank god.swapped out the heater fiber glass case cus he replaced his 2 years before i had to swap cabs.
Now TED the owner told me to buy a brand new heater controls for the new cab and a few ducting peaces and heater under dash pipes. One thing i did do for ted when i was working on his truck.One of the Bord members told me about.Was there is nothing wrong about adding More Ground straps to the cab to the frame the engine to.When ted got the truck he loved it.the one thing he loved about the truck was the Roof lights.He said it just made the truck look more personal touch |

Many on this board have pointed out that an average truck's value is on condition , not origionality. The difference at the top of the windshield is almost invisible with the rubber in , you will have some other minor issues like vin plate , wire harness holes , ebrake cable , .. the list go's on , but nothing major. I'd use the good cab.

I noticed that today. When I went to log in here the computer showed this name so I used it. I didnt know i had two user names but it is pretty funny. I get to show my old 67 and the one im fixing up lol
