question about that: were painted gas caps stock? Mine had one when I got it, but figured it might be something a dealer did.

Re: original (not modified) truck pics

My 71 GMC, bought new at Lynch Motor Cars (Cadillac Pontiac GMC) in LaGrande Oregon. By Globe Furniture. Globe is located across the street from the dealership, which is still there except it is now a Aaron's rental store. It's all stock and will stay that way !

Painted gas caps were on Custom and Custom Deluxe trucks, Cheyenne had chrome. For 71 & 72 anyway

Re: original (not modified) truck pics

joe, #42 shows the rear end with no aluminum trim around the tail lights and tail gate. Was that the way it came? just curious.
so many beautiful trucks!

Special K, I have sliding rear window, I think I'll go check out the leaking water issue as soon as it warms up a bit, thanks

67 anthony, what color is your truck? I like it a lot

Good question on Joe's trick trim.

If you can pull the gasket back (going to be tough,if not impossible) to see if they used a caulk is the question. I think the problem was the caulk,it shouldn't be necessary. Once it dried and cracked it didn't seal and it causes separation to prevent the seal from doing it's job. I had one spot of surface rust peaking out about the window on the right, maybe 3/4" high and 1"-2" wide. When I removed the window and gasket it was all the way across top and bottom. The sides were fine,I guess, because they drained.

Here are some that aren't mine:

Yes, thats how it came. This truck never had any trim, you only got the tail light trim when the side trim was ordered. Thats the original paint on that truck too!

Wow,that truck is truly unique. I know rear trim only came with side trim, but Custom Deluxes cme with lower side trim. This truck was ordered lower molding delete,I guess. Does it mention that on the SPID? I've never seen a Custom Deluxe w/o trim. I realize it's possible because I had a solid Ochre BBC SWB Highlander with upper trim-only and a 3spd. Bought it in '73 from the OK Used Car lot...definitely was all original. I think it had about 3k on the odo.

You're right, it does. I bought it from the original owners back in 1997, and it had just turned 50k miles. They had extra gas tanks in the bed and had removed that original gas cap to make a special one that fed off the tanks in the bed. Anyway, several years later I stopped by to show the lady the truck (I had it all polished up and removed the camper and old split rim wheels) and she said, look what I found, the original gas cap!! She said it needed to be back on the truck, so there it is

Yes, thats all. It didnt run right when I got it, so I only took a few trips around the block in it. We rebuilt the carb and it seem to be running good now, but still havent taken it out on the road yet. The only plan for it is a really good detail, like the rubber floor mat, and cleaning the engine compartment. It also has some scuffs that need to be polished out. And BTW, you have an excellent looking truck!

Re: original (not modified) truck pics

Yeah, you hate to change 'em when they're so cherry and original. I think I make this same mistake every couple of years,Someone corrects me,I go check out some literature, and see they didn't come with trim. Then I forget because trim is the only way I ever see them

I agree with you guys, those Accu-Rides are the way to go. I have set but haven't gotten new tires, yet.
