Re: How To: Ruin a Perfectly Good K/5
Let me know what kind of break in oil and regular oil you decide to use.
I'm worried about the "zinc issues" with flat tappet cams.

Did you get the 260hp,290hp or 330 hp?

Re: How To: Ruin a Perfectly Good K/5
260. The 290 is the same motor with an old school grind cam for $400 more. If I need a cam, I'll choose my own. Didn't look at the 330. Figured this was better than a questionable local rebuild for $1200...

Re: How To: Ruin a Perfectly Good K/5
The 260hp is a great deal. the burb has one it and and I am not sure of the mileage but it runs well. I will replace it with the same when it dies.

Re: How To: Ruin a Perfectly Good K/5
I used Brad Penn break in oil for initial start up and the first 500 miles. Then switched over to the 10w30. No problems and its been about 5000 miles.

Re: How To: Ruin a Perfectly Good K/5
I used lucal oil break in along with Valvoline VR-1 racing oil because of it's high zinc content. Had no issues with my BBC when I fired it.

Another awesome addition to the family Chris. Too bad about the engine. I wondered why you were selling all your LS gear now I see you are going to GB. You have a lot going on bro. Subscribed

Re: How To: Ruin a Perfectly Good K/5
Man, you are not kidding. Such is life...
Parts are starting to trickle in--got my HEI dizzy and wires today, crate motor should be here tomorrow, along with a bunch of gaskets, plugs, etc... Is removing ignition points considered ruining? ![]()

Re: How To: Ruin a Perfectly Good K/5
I know there are some guys on the Chevelle and Corvette boards that would cringe. It won't be numbers matching anymore after this weekend. I figure it's just a Blazer and not a super low mileage example. I will try to maintain the original look, for now, but it's a slippery slope

Re: How To: Ruin a Perfectly Good K/5
Heck yeah! Nice looking engine. You may have said already is that a flat tappet motor? You got a game plan for the oil I'm sure. I have read about four different failures of non roller engines. Some were high buck engines too. Look forward to a video by Monday

Re: How To: Ruin a Perfectly Good K/5
Non-roller. Will use high zinc/zddp oil and cross my fingers! Probably won't be running by Monday, as I will clean and detail as I go. If it was just a simple motor swap, it would be done tomorrow, but I can't keep myself from doing it 'right'.
