Chime in! Ordering a lowering kit for my 69 SWB. DJM 5/5 or Hotchkis 4/6?
I am looking online right now and cannot make up my mind. What kit should I get?
I am not looking to sink thousands of $ into this truck but it needs to be lowered. Here are the two kits I am looking at. http://djmsuspension.com/products/djm-16/ http://www.hotchkis.net/6772_c10_spo...l_springs.html If I am driving this truck on occasion, not hauling and not tracking what kit would better suit my needs? Please offer up opinions. |

FWIW I have 6 lug drums and do not plan on converting them.

I recommend disc brake drop spindles for anything over a 3" front drop.
You can still retain 6-lug wheels with disc brakes. Expand your search from DJM "drop pocket" style a-arms. This is OLD technology that leaves the a-arm spring pocket dangerously close to the ground, especially when you add a drop spring. Look at Belltech, Western Chassis, McGaughy's, Performance Online,... and even Classic Performance Products. But if you definitely don't wnat disc brakes,... use a 3/5 spring drop. But this will require drop shocks, rear shcok relocators and an adjustable track bar to re-center the rearend after lowering.

My opinion,... disc brakes up front,... is the first mod you should do to these old drum brake trucks.
Plus, when you switch, you can add drop spindles for a cheap 2.5"-3" drop. (and then you could cut 1/2 coil to 1-1/2 coils for a cheap additional drop) Save your drop spring money and use it on spindles. ($228.99 almost everywhere)

i just installed the djm arms with 2" lower springs my blazer and with a 15" rim with 255/60/15 tire the spring pocket is 3" off the ground-a little too close.

In my opinion.... ECE is tried and true and I woudn't look anywhere else.
They work only in the C/K series trucks, Blazers and Suburbans so they know everything there is to know about these trucks. No second guessing on if the parts will be there or not. Excellent customer service and products. Call Stan or Mark at ECE and price a 3/5" drop kit. The 2/4" premium kit is only $479 and I doubt there's much of a price increase if you change to 3/5" springs. No other option for your needs in my honest opinion....
