My dad has a 1970 Gmc p/u and I was considering finding him a stock am/fm radio for it. I am tired of riding in it and te radio is am only and it hardly works. How hard would this be to find and what kind of price range would I be looking at?

I dont have news you would like to hear . . . .
They are getting difficult to find.
If you do find a cheap one, ($150 or so) there is no guarantee it works.
If you do find a good clean working factory AM/FM radio you will end up spending around $200 - $400!
The law of supply and demand.

Look for (Do an internet search) for Kenwood.
They still make a nice radio with shaft style knobs so you don't have to cut the dash. It also has Pre Outs (RCA Jacks) for an external Amp in you want. It sells for around $100 from JC Whitney I think.

I put that same or very similar Kenwood in my dads truck 2 years ago. It has very good radio reception. I don't run CD players in my cars/trucks, just another excuse for breakin. A factory AM/FM is nice for show but a mono radio at best I believe. If you want you can use a stock unit modified to run hidden custom unit. This is what I'll probalby do when it comes time for showier truck.

I may have 4-5 AM-FM's coming in but I don't know anything about them yet, It will be a month or so before I get them though. IMDARREN is right probably atleast $150 and up. Thanks Randy

Thanks all for the info. Maybe i'll just tell dad he needs to buy a new radio. Or when we travel we will use my rig. I figured they would be pretty hard to find and pricy. And you all answered that question for me.

As I said, I won't know about them for a month and I did not say the price would be $150. I said atleast and that would probably be a non working one. If they work they will be close the $300-$400 mark. I will post them when I get them if anybody is interested. Thanks Randy

Where do you some of you guys get your parts? 5 am/fm radios? Do you go out and just look in every truck in a boneyard and grab them if they're am/fm? The prices for some of this stuff is wild. I wouldn't mind paying 150 or 200 but 300-400 is out of sight. And those tow hooks that everyone is after, are those 2 pieces of forged metal really worth $250 a pair? I like my original truck parts but sometimes aftermarket is the only sensible solution. Anyone else agree with me or am I just going crazy?

Anyways that's my 2 cents

I paid $50 for my first '67! That puts it all into perspective. If the next owner wants to build a Concours d'Elegance truck...more power to him. They make better radios and cd players today so why suffer with an expensive old unit when you can get a new high zoot unit for less! No offense meant to anyone who can get those prices...market demand sets the price. As soon as find some tow hooks and radios in the JY they are going on eBay!
