Question Question on fuel tank relocation

I have seen that a lot guys are relocating the fuel tank where the spare tire fits. I like the idea of relocation but what do you do with the spare tire? Do you just put it in the back of the truck where it can flop around or does someone make a bracket to hold the rim & tire? Just wondering , planing on doing the swap in the near future but do not like the idea of the spare tire being loose in the bed for someone to steel. Thanks, Shawn

Re: Question on fuel tank relocation

the factory installed a mount in the bed on the driver side front that allowed the tire to mount there and could easily be secured with a cable or lock

Re: Question on fuel tank relocation

It`s a common problem when putting the tank where the spare goes.

Re: Question on fuel tank relocation

I looked all over my factory '71 and do not see a bracket. It must be in between the bed skin if you are talking about standing the wheel up. Does any body make a bracket that will mount to the floor kinda like the baja racers use? That way you can use a bed cover or tool box. Shawn

Re: Question on fuel tank relocation

I don't know where you live , but out here in Kaufman, when you break down and have to leave your truck or car people will vandalize your vehicle. I do not have AAA but I still would like the option of being able to replace a flat tire if need be. I am into show appearence and not much into loose crap in my bed. I may try to fabrecate my own type of bracket & sell it on this site if no one else makes one. Probably just gave away my get rich idea.

Re: Question on fuel tank relocation

I can't remember where, but I seem to recall a bracket kit for fleetsides that held the tire vertically on the left front corner of the bed. It was about 30 or 40 bucks.

Re: Question on fuel tank relocation

If you don`t like the traditional verticle side-mount you can bolt a mount to the floor.
