opinions on lifting my truck :new:

i just got a 1971 c10 4x2 with a 350 in it. its at the stock ride height which is okay but i really want to lift it 3"-4" so i can put 33's on it. im in highschool right now working at mcdonalds and do not have an endless budget. i honestly know pretty much nothing about anything suspension in these trucks so could you please explain which parts i would need to get in order to give my truck that lift. thankyou and have a great day

Ebay coil spring spacers. Find them for you truck. You can get front and rear coil spring spacers are cheap and basic to install. You can get a 3 in for the front and id do 1.5 or 2 for rear. They go under coil springs. You will need an alignment for front. This will fit 33s no prob. I had 31s on a stock truck no probs. im gonna use coil spring spacers on the 3/4 i buy next. This will give you the desired height and look. Dont bother putting 1ton coils they make it ride rough. Spacers can be had off ebay for $100 or less

Put the spacers in now and later when you have more money you could always convert it to 4WD. Welcome to the board. Look in the 4WD section ,there is always someone doing a conversion. Chris

I was told that the spacers you are talking about in the back would lower the truck by someone else in this group this confused me

Your thinking of blocks. Blocks can lower or lift a leaf spring rear truck. Most likely you have a coil truck and there are blocks that go in between the trailing arms and rearend to lower it. Ignore those. The coil spacers like i posted a pic of above go under your coils in the rear to lift the truck. Get coil spring spacers. 2in that way you have a small bit of rake that way you can haul stuff like a fourwheeler without being nose high

Re: opinions on lifting my truck :new:

Yeah I think I'm gonna go with 3 in in front 2 in in back then put 31's on. I think that will give it a good stance

Re: opinions on lifting my truck :new:

Steering will be fine because ur just pushing your control arms down. And your brake lines shld be ok. 33s will clear on a 2 in lift. 31s cleared on a stock truck. This is when i first drug my truck home

In that case ill probably just stick 33's on there thank you so much for your help I think I'll probably have to save up like 900$ for the lift and tires

Re: opinions on lifting my truck :new:

Your biggest thing with rims is backspacing. In basic terms make sure that you have to reach into the rim to reach the lugnuts. Like a deep dish rim to keep from rubbing tires on your truck. Id keep the rims you have and buy some 33s in good shape off craigslist. And some $20 cab lights for the roof and itll look like a cool lifted truck

Re: opinions on lifting my truck :new:

get a wire wheel and scuff up your wheels and paint them black. and its not real hard just be careful. my opinion would be to look up replacing coil springs and follow the instructions its not real hard to do just time consuming. basically follow how to disconnect and remove springs but just get the tension off to install spacers. remember those things are under tension and will launch out and bust you in the face or arm and seriously injure you.

Re: opinions on lifting my truck :new:

The black one looks like it has quite a bit of custom fab work in the front end setup. Longer a-arms with narrowed mounting points, king shocks, probably a pretty nice long travel setup.

Re: opinions on lifting my truck :new:

4 or 5 but he has long travel suspension for desert racing. You will look similar to this. It will look real good with a 2-3" coil spacer lift and 33s. Dont forget the 33s will ad additional height to truck because of taller side walls. Your truck will look good

Re: opinions on lifting my truck :new:

Thank you everyone for all the input and I think I've made my decision I'm gonna get 3" coil spacers in the front and 2" in the back ill probably get 14" by 8" rims and 33's overall cost I'm not sure yet but ill probably lift the truck before I get the tires and rims then ill probably get those the month after

Hope you mean 15" rims. 15x8s will work, 15x10s will look better cuz the tires wont be sucked in on the rim. I had 15x10
