If you want to know what a 2:1 first gear would be like, put your truck in low range with the 3.73 and try to start in 4th gear. That will give you a 7.46 1st gear (1.96 low range x 1:1 4th) which is almost the same as the 2.21 of the M21/22 with a 3.36 rear gear which is 7.43.

With 4.10 in my Jimmy and 3rd gear, the # is 6.97 further reduced by the tire size. Slipping the clutch a lot would be the only way to really get moving. The above test should really illustrate to you why the granny truck trans have a 3.5 "road gear".
